NSTP 2: SETTING UP A PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR IMMERSION
Introduction:
As people grow older, a lot of health problems were likely to occur. These problems may
seem unavoidable for some. The said health problems for the elderly would sometimes affect
both body and mind. In addition, senior citizens have a variety of concerns when it comes to
health and well-being. Such problems includes, different chronic diseases like heart disease,
diabetes and cancer, also different problems in terms of hearing , eyesight, and weakening of the
bones. Those were all the conditions that were likely to increase as people age. And becoming a
senior citizen does not doom someone to a life of health problems, yet there are series of steps
that can be taken to help preserve good health well into the golden years (HealthDay, 2020). In
accordance with this scenario, the proponents proposed a project which offers help to our
beloved elderly. This project aims to help numerous of senior citizens to feel prioritized by the
local health offices in terms of their needs with regards on their health. Meanwhile, the
proponents have found out that as of 2019, the number of elderly Filipinos were constitute of
8.2% of the country's total population (Galves, 2019). Having to say that, the proponents
concluded that an innate help for elders is such a need for, taking care of our beloved senior
citizens is part of the country’s very known culture.
Local health units among different barangays in the country has the capability and the
responsibility upon prioritizing the health of their own people (DOH, 2017). Nevertheless, the
proponents have decided to help the senior citizens to have a proper and a regular medical check-
up for t heir different needs. Since local health units were too busy trying to accommodate all of
the people in prior to their scopes, the proponents find a way on how to help both parties—the
senior citizens, and the local government as well. A well- composed and concrete schedule for
free medical check-ups exclusive for senior citizens would be a great help for the local health
service units to accomplish all of their work in time, in line with giving their senior citizen
people’s needs.
Background of the Problem:
Barangay Poblacion 3 of Tanauan City Batangas, is one of the barangays in the city of
Tanauan that has a numerous number of senior citizens. In the whole city, the said barangay was
compromised of 0.31% out of the overall population of the Tanauan (DILG, 2019). Having a
large number of 475 elderly or 12.04% seniors residing at the barangay (Albo, 2019), indeed the
assistance for recoordination, and reconnection of the association of the senior citizens to the

NSTP 2: SETTING UP A PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR IMMERSION
local health unit of the barangay, is needed to accomplish, for it was found out that some of the
senior citizens were not being prioritized, or they have been classified as the least priority of the
local helath unit (“Personal Interview”). That’s why without being said, the proponents has an
ultimate goal for the project—that is to reconcile, and provide help for the senior citizens to
become one of the priorities of the local health unit.
The proponents decided to conduct not just a free seminar for the association of senior
citizens of the barangay, but also an additional long-term effect for the program—to tie and
strenghten the bond between the elderly and the local health service unit at the old city hall of
Tanauan. Their proposed project aims to help the senior citizens of Barangay Poblacion 3 to
have a free and regular medical check-up on a biweekly basis, that is to say, creating a
sustainable and attainable long-term connection between the association and the local health
service unit of the barangay.
The City Health Office (CHO) , the President of the Senior Citizens Association, and the
prior help of the barangay officials of Poblacion 3, helped the proponents attain this project.
According to their offices, such program will be helpful for the senior citizens to become a
priority of the local health unit. The students of First Asia Institute of Technology and
Humanities think of a solution to help the senior citizens on Barangay Poblacion 3, Tanauan City
Batangas. Keeping Things Vital: Health Care Services for the Elderly program will provide help
for the seniors to finally be accommodated by the City Health Office located in scope of the
barangay thus, the researchers decided to conduct a community program with the following
objectives:
To inform the senior citizens about the free medical check up;
To conduct a seminar about having healthy diet and lifestyle;
To disseminate posters and flyers to senior citizens with complete infomation regarding
their regular free-medical chek-up;
To help CHO address elders’ basic health problems and help them provide the
maintenance medicines on a biweekly basis;
To monitor the continution of the program at least every month.

NSTP 2: SETTING UP A PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR IMMERSION
Method:
The proponents coordinated with the barangay officials of Barangay Poblacion 3,
Tanauan City Batangas, to the president of the Senior Citizens Association, and to the City
Health Office. The proponents communicate to these different officials and departments because
they have the capability onto helping these the proponents to provide the things that are needed
to conduct the program.
The proponents, together with the coordinated officials, will be preparing and expecting
15 senior citizens every last Friday of every after two weeks (biweekly), chosen through careful
computation of dividing the whole population of the senior citizens on the barangay into 15 or 16
groups, providing a total number of seniors that were scheduled every month—30 elderly.
Formal letters, and concrete schedule for the program will be distributed to the local
council of Barangay Poblacion 3, to the City Health Office and also to the president of Senior
Citizens Association for their future participation in assessing the program. The actual program
consists of the following:
1. Talk about the prior introduction of the proposed project;
2. Seminar about having a healthy diet and lifestyle;
3. Provision of schedule and informative posters and flyers for Senior Citizens;
4. Observation of the free medical chek-up for Sennior Citizens; and
5. Continuous monitoring of the program.
After the one-time actual introductory part of the program for the elderly, the assigned person
on the time of implementation, will give evaluation forms to the citizens for them to determine if
the program was efficient or not.
