Guidelines for Establishing Scholarships for International Students

National Chin-Yi University of Technology


Amended and promulgated according to NCUT-Tzu-No. 1081100576 Letter on May 28, 2019

I. The Scholarships are established to encourage international students in National Chin-Yi


University of Technology (hereinafter referred to as “NCUT") to pursue study diligently.
II. Object: International students enrolling in NCUT (excluding students from IBPIUC and
International Bachelor Program, Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland Chinese, as well as overseas
Chinese students and exchange students). Doctoral students may propose application upon the
enrollment in the first semester, students in two-year and four-year technical programs and master
students may only propose application after studying in NCUT for two (inclusive) semesters or
more (excluding graduates and extended students).
III. In principle, regarding this financial aid, international students in two-year technical program and
master students may apply for 2 times at most, 6 times at most for students in four-year technical
program, and 4 times at most for doctoral students, and only one application may be proposed in
every semester.
IV. This financial aid is classified into full scholarship and partial scholarship
V. Award standards and manner:
(I) Full scholarship:
1. Doctoral students: financial aid will be awarded after enrollment in the first semester; starting
from the second semester, doctoral students must have a minimum average semester grade of
70 (inclusive) and a minimum conduct performance of 80 (inclusive), and shall not have any
records of demerit (three admonitions included) in the previous semester. Those meeting the
standards will be awarded of NT$ 10,000 as full scholarship per month, totally six months, and
NT$ 60,000 in total.
2. Master students: propose application in the third and fourth semester respectively
(1) Award standards in the third semester: at least 6 credits must be completed in each
semester in the first two semesters, and the average semester grade in the first academic
year ranks within top twenty percent among international students in the same college and
the same school system must have a minimum conduct performance of 80 (inclusive), and
shall not have any records of demerit (three admonitions included) in the previous
semester. Those meeting the standards will be awarded of NT$ 60,000 as financial aid in
such semester.
(2) Award standards in the fourth semester: the following point scoring will be implemented
for the academic achievements in the first three semesters: plus 1 point for each paper
published in domestic seminar, 2 points for each paper published in international seminar,
3 points for the paper published in the journals of EI level, 5 points for the paper published
in the journals of SCI level, 2 points for each participation in the industry-academy
cooperation project below NT$ 150,000, 3 points for each participation in the industry-
academy cooperation project over NT$ 150,000 and below NT$ 300,000, 4 points for each
participation in the industry-academy cooperation project over NT$ 300,000 and below
NT$ 500,000, and 5 points for each participation in the industry-academy cooperation
project over NT$ 500,000; total credits will be approved and testified by each department,
international students who are ranking within top twenty percent among international
students in the same college and the same school system, and must have a minimum
average semester grade of 70 (inclusive) and a minimum conduct performance of 80
(inclusive) and shall not have any records of demerit (three admonitions included) in the
previous semester. Those meeting the standards will be awarded of NT$ 60,000 as
financial aid in such semester.
3. Students in two-year and four-year technical program: must complete at least 9 credits in the
previous semester, and must have a minimum average semester grade of 70 (inclusive) and a
minimum conduct performance of 80 (inclusive), and shall not have any records of demerit
(three admonitions included) in the previous semester. Those meeting the standards will be
exempted from one second of the actual tuition and miscellaneous fees in such semester and
awarded of NT$ 10,000 as financial aid.
(II) Partial scholarship:
1. Master students: propose application in the third and fourth semester respectively
(1) Award standards in the third semester: at least 6 credits must be completed in each
semester in the first two semesters, and the average semester grade in the first academic
year ranks between top twenty percent and fifty percent among international students in
the same college and the same school system, must have a minimum conduct performance
of 80 (inclusive), and shall not have any records of demerit (three admonitions included) in
the previous semester. Those meeting the standards will be awarded of NT$ 30,000 as
financial aid in such semester.
(2) Award standards in the fourth semester: the following point scoring will be implemented
for the academic achievements in the first three semesters: plus 1 point for each paper
published in domestic seminar, 2 points for each paper published in international seminar,
3 points for the paper published in the journals of EI level, 5 points for the paper published
in the journals of SCI level, 2 points for each participation in the industry-academy
cooperation project below NT$ 150,000, 3 points for each participation in the industry-
academy cooperation project over NT$ 150,000 and below NT$ 300,000, 4 points for each

the previous semester. Those meeting the standards will be awarded of NT$ 30,000 as
financial aid in such semester.
2. Students in two-year and four-year technical program: must complete at least 9 credits in the
previous semester, and must have average semester grade between 60 (inclusive) and 70 and a
minimum conduct performance of 80 (inclusive), and shall not have any records of demerit
(three admonitions included) in the previous semester. Those meeting the standards will be
exempted from one second of the actual tuition and miscellaneous fees in such semester and
awarded of NT$ 8,000 as financial aid.
The total quota of students in two-year and four-year technical program being awarded of full
scholarship and partial scholarship is limited to 20 students. For international students eligible
for the aforesaid financial aid, in case of the same academic results, priority will be given to
students with a higher score of conduct; in case of the same score of conduct, priority will be
given to students with longer certified service hours in NCUT.
VI. Application deadline: the application for Scholarships/Financial Aid is accepted from August 10 to
September 10 for the first semester, and from January 15 to February 15 for the second semester.

VIII. Application process: doctoral students shall propose application to the Office of International
Affairs in the first semester when applying for admission, after completion of registration, Office
of International Affairs will make a list uniformly and work with Office of Academic Affairs and
Office of Student Affairs to submit it to the President for approval; other applicants shall submit
the aforesaid required documents within the deadline to the Office of International Affairs for
preliminary review, then Office of International Affairs will make a list uniformly and submit it to
Office of Student Affairs to forward to “Evaluation Committee of International Students’ Financial
Aid” for official review.
IX. Funding sources: The scholarships will be awarded from the subsidies from Ministry of Education,
public donations and fundraising income, as well as the Student Financial Aid Fund of NCUT.
X. The Guidelines are entered into effect from the date of promulgation following the ratification by
the Student Financial Aid Committee. The same shall apply to all its amendments.
