Greenhouse Horticulture Production 

Step One: Read the project scenario 


 
You have the opportunity to design a greenhouse!Please create your 
greenhouse scenario below. You get to pick the size, location, climate, etc. to fit 
the greenhouse you want to create. Make sure you include: 
● Location 
● Climate 
● Size of Greenhouse 
● Type of Greenhouse (smaller hobby/backyard, commercial, community, 
high school, etc).  
● What you want to grow, flowers, fruits, vegetables, etc.  
 
Step Two: Greenhouse Structures. 
Now that you have background information for your greenhouse, research the 
following structures and choose ones that align with the greenhouse scenario 
you created above.  
 
Choose Structure, Research the following structures and choose one, please 
add a photo of the one you chose. Explain why you chose the structure you did: 
● Quonset 
 
● Gable Roof 
 
● Dome 
 
● Gothic 
 
● A-frame 
 
Choose a frame style, research the following frames. Things to consider are 
cost, durability, is it repairable, etc. Make sure it fits with the scenario you 
created above. Explain why you chose the frame material you did. Please 
include a photo of your final choice. 
● Aluminum 
 
● Wood 
 
● Galvanized Steel 
 
● Plastic (resin) 
 
● PVC 
 
Choose covering, using this ​site​ please research the following and choose the 
appropriate covering for your described scenario, explain why you chose this 
covering. Please include a photo of your final choice. 
● Polyethylene Films 
 
● Glass 
 
● Rigid Plastic Glazings 
 
● Structured Polycarbonates 
 
Step Three: Greenhouse Amenities, research the following amenities and 
what will work best for your chosen scenario. 
● Tables/Benches, how are you going to organize these in your 
greenhouse? How many do you need? What material? Stationary or 
rolling? Please include pictures of the final choice. 
 
● Heating/Cooling systems, do you need fans and cooling walls? 
Ventilation? What will work best for your chosen location/climate? 
 
● Watering, sprinklers, hand watering, etc. What will be the most efficient 
for your chosen design? 
 
Step Four: Create Final Design: 
 
Now that you have researched ideas for your greenhouse, create a 3-D model, 
or a detailed drawing of your final greenhouse.  
 
Note: I know you may not have the resources at home to build a 3-D model, if 
that is the case, please create a detailed drawing (by hand or digitally) if a 3-D 
model is not attainable for you at home. Please have fun while creating this 
project.  
 
When you have completed all steps please turn this sheet, along with any 
additional attachments you need, into google classroom.
