Disconnect the power to the vehicle by removing the battery's negative lead.

Drain the coolant.

Remove the front valve cover. Remove the starter element's bracket from the coolant pump.
Remove the inspection cover and put on cranking tool 9996956. Crank the engine to “0” with the flywheel and
so that the 1st cylinder's valves are closed (Over Dead Centre).

Slacken the plug from the injection pump. Place dial gauge 9989876 with probe tip 1159585, extension
9001117 and holder 9998843.
Turn the flywheel against the engine's direction of rotation until the dial gauge's pointer does not move and
the dial gauge's tip is on the pump shaft's base circle. Set the dial gauge to zero.

Crank the engine in the direction of rotation until the value (measurement), which is stamped on the pump's
rating plate, shows on the dial gauge.
Note: If the engine is turned too far the tip of the dial gauge will fall down into a groove. The tip must then be
lifted up again manually before the engine is turned back, in order that the tip does not get damaged.

Slacken the lock screw on the injection pump. Remove the spacer. Tighten the screw to torque, see
specifications group 20.

Remove cranking tool 9996956 and put on blocking tool 9996950.

Turn the flywheel to correct position according to specifications, see group 20.

Tighten the drive gear's nut to torque in accordance with step 1, see specifications, group 20.
Note: The drive gear should be tightened in two steps. Step two is tightened after a check has been carried
out, see below.

Loosen the plug. Put on the spacer and tighten the plug to torque, see specifications, group 20.

Turn the flywheel in the engine's direction of rotation to “0” on the flywheel. Check the dial gauge's value. The
value should conform with the value stamped on the pump's rating plate.

Remove the dial gauge with probe tip, extension and holder from the injection pump.

Remove cranking tool 9996956 and put on blocking tool 9996950.

Tighten the drive gear to torque according to step 2, see specifications, group 20.

Remove the blocking tool from the flywheel casing and put on the inspection cover.

Fill with coolant.

Connect the negative battery cable.

Start the engine and carry out a leakage and function check.
