Engineering Stress Analysis

The document summarizes stress checks performed at the eye location of a lifting component under a design load of 381.75 kN. Shear stress and Hertz pressure are found to exceed allowable values, indicating non-compliance. Welding stress cannot be checked due to missing input dimensions. Bearing shear stress is found to be acceptable. Overall, modifications are required to reduce high stresses identified at the eye location.

1.2 Applied loads

1.3b Need for centralizer plates during lifting : THIS CHECK IS NOT PART OF STRENGTH CHECK CALCULATIONS

Tt = 30.00 mm Total padeye thickness (both main & cheek plates)

Ash - Tt = 43.00 mm provide centralizer plates with total thickness of 33 mm

1.4 Material characteristics

Fy = 345.00 Mpa yield strength

E = 21000.00 Kn/sqcmYoung elastic modulus

2.0 Design load

The lifting eye is checked for a maximum static sling load of 190.873 kN
together with an inclination angle of 65 deg. to Y-Z plane, and 7.13 deg. additional sling deviation

Applying a safely factor of 2 gives a design load of:

FD = F*S = 381.75 kN design load

This results in the following padeye loading

Design load applied in the plane of padeye

FDy = FD*cosa*cosb = 160.09 kN

FDx = FD*sina = 345.98 kN

Design load applied perpendicular to padeye plane

FDz = FD*cosa*sinb+0.05*FD = 39.11 kN as per API-RP-2A recommendations
