Developing a Tourist brand through Website & Social Media for
emerging Tourism Startups

2. Rationale behind the proposed topic (Why you have chosen the topic).
I Mohaneesh a Tourism Startup Proprietor and a professional Mountaineer. I
have been into the tourism business for the last 4 years. I started my business from
Rs.1000/ and I am into a much satisfactory position now. The income I derive from the
business is not constant; it keeps fluctuating depending upon seasons, tourist trend
and market competition. The Major challenge I found out in building up my tourism
business was generating leads, creating a market presence and building up my brand
image in the market. All this I achieved by building up a very simple and basic website
on my own and building up social media channels of my brand.
In my dissertation report I wish to explain step by step how you can build your
own website which is very basic and add all essential components to it which a
tourism company requires. I will explain and research on the technique of building up
a very basic static website of tourism which is extremely easy and does not require
any software skill set. For example you can go through my website
www.namastewanderer.com . I briefly studied the websites and company outlook of all
professional tourism companies like Veena world, IndianHoliday, Travel Triangle and
TourMyIndia. After acquiring a holistic experience I decided I have built a very basic
and static website and embarked upon my professional business. In my other part I
will explain to you how to build your social media channels. I have chosen this topic as
an outcome of my own business building and it can be a reference for emerging
startup businesses in India alongwith I can add on to more on my knowledge of the
digital market.

3. Objectives of your study (State clearly what you intend to achieve or


find out through your proposed study).
The place to find customers for your tourism company is online. For this, you
need a good website and be active on social media. Tourist travellers prefer to book
online and expect quick replies. They especially value the opinions of other travellers.
So it’s important that your satisfied customers speak for you on channels like social
media and review websites. If you manage your online presence well, you will attract
new business and keep existing customers happy!
The social internet and mobile devices have changed how tourist travellers
research and book their holidays. Nowadays, you find your customers online, rather
than at a trade fair.
The internet is very important for the tourism industry. It shows tourist travellers
the amazing long-haul destinations that await them. Social media inspire them and
allows them to share their experiences. The tourism sector is an early adopter of
digital technologies. Consumer purchase behaviour is changing, as quick and easy
online booking becomes a main sales channel for tourism products.
You should not wait for your customer to find you. Instead, actively use the
opportunities that the internet offers your tourism business.
My objective of this dissertation is to put forward my work in research and
development as an easy and economical development of tourism startups / travel
agencies with respect to their website and social media development.

4. Review of relevant Literature (evaluation of previous research work)


related to your selected topic to identify the research gap and give a
theoretical base to your proposed research work.
Considering today's competitive market place and the technological progress of
all tourism and hospitality companies in the world we can draw a conclusion that the
backbone of their service is their user friendly website and their efficiency in
operations. Such successful companies like MakeMyTrip, Veena World, Thomas Cook
are going to be my theoretical base of research work studying their digital media and
through an application perspective application of the same to build a startup.

5. An outline of the research plan and methods to be used for your


proposed study.
My research plan is an application of my self work I have been doing since the
last 4 years. I am refining that and illustrating it in my dissertation, and it will also be a
research on leading companies and their online interfaces, brand building strategies
used by them.

6. Chapter Outline. Identify and list tentative chapters of your proposed


Dissertation Work. Also outline briefly the content of each chapter.

1. Tourism Startups and their needs :


This chapter will comprise of the essential utilities the startups in the market need for
creating their presence and to make themselves viable, to represent themselves in
the market competition. Establish themselves as a brand. It will focus on all digital
marketing tools including websites and illustrate the examples of well established key
players in the market.
2. Big players of Tourism Markets and their strengths
This will focus on the current big companies and their process and operational
execution strategy for operations and marketing in the world of online market
presence. Considering startups and other emerging tourism business ideas and small
travel agents competing with the Big Players in the tourism market.

3. A brief idea of digital market presence for emerging startups


Websites and presence over social media has become the backbone of tourism
markets. The current scenario of travel agents and future of digital markets. In order
to survive and sustain it has become essential for travel agents, tourism startup
entrepreneurs and other small hospitality service providers to establish their own
market presence in the online world. The question is HOW to do it? With limited
capital, lesser skill expertise and increasing competition. Answer to all this lies in the
chapter ahead.

4. Essentials of a Website and Social Media


The Do’s and Don'ts of a website and social media channels. How to prepare content
for websites and social media. How to structure websites, the placement of web
pages, company policies etc. The essential services and features in a website
considering a customer’s point of view

5. Website creation to completion


Creating a simple website using predefined drag and drop Google tools.

6. Building up Social Media Channels and cross linkages to social


media.
A research formulated with the example of a startup who built their own market
outreach and social media presence.

The Research Methodology adopted is through the actual survey of customers
and tourism business in market from micro to large sized business including my self-

 To know how to sell your products, tour packages in tourism industry and
in corporate sector
 To understand what customer wants in their trips, events and meetings
and how to organize or modify according to there choice and taste for the
customers.
 To know very new ideas to selling their products in market
