FEEDING THE NHS
grateful for all the An initiative launched in London by a small

group of tech workers and entrepreneurs
is helping to feed NHS workers across the
nation. Following a successful launch in
London, Meals for the NHS is now active
throughout the UK, supporting some of
the worst-hit areas including Birmingham,
Wolverhampton and Glasgow.
With many hospital canteens either closed or on limited
hours our frontline health heroes are often not able to get a
meal. Meals for the NHS uses donations from the public to
partner with local restaurants to get meals to them, making
a huge difference to staff and helping local restaurants.
Otherwise closed local restaurants provide meals (around
£5-£7 per meal) and Meals for the NHS supports with the
delivery aspect if required. So far more than £500,000 has
been raised feeding thousands of staff.

“Rejoice in nature,” says Kate
Humble who is currently presenting
A Country Life For Half The Price on
Channel 5 on Tuesday nights.
“It really makes me feel hopeful,
even though life is pretty bleak at the
moment. I appreciate it’s easy for me
to say this. I live in the countryside, in
the Welsh hills, where there’s plenty of
space but city and town dwellers can
still reap the benefits – especially when
it’s springtime and the weather is good.
Getting some fresh air, looking at blue
skies, even from a window, and flowers
and trees coming into bud, watching
birds and listening to bird song can all
help lift spirits, make you feel more
positive about life and bring a sense of
peace, even when things are difficult as
they are now.
“Nature is on our side and will do
her best to cheer us. We all need that
connection to the natural world and
it’s not just me saying it. Science has
proved there are benefits. It lifts our
bodies, our souls and makes us feel like
we belong in this world.”
Kate feels that, ultimately, good will
come from the present situation.
“There is less pollution, less noise
and more peace. It’s like nature is
coming back into its own. The world is

Why is my
skin so dull?
If your skin is looking a little lacklustre
it might just need a little extra care. Dull
skin is commonly caused by slow skin cell
turnover. Over time our skin’s ability to naturally
exfoliate itself slows down and we end up with a
build-up of dead skin cells on the surface. Regular
use of a gentle exfoliator will help keep skin looking
fresh and youthful but opt for something gentle,
such as exfoliating toners or tonics rather than
harsh scrubs. Certain skincare ingredients
can help, such as Vitamin C to brighten and
hyaluronic acid to hydrate.
Drink plenty or water to hydrate your
skin from the inside out, too

Missing our normal walks and

a general feeling of being ‘cooped up’ can
have a detrimental effect on mind and body.
But we don’t need gyms and lots of space
to feel fit and energised. Just changing our
mindset and the way we move at home can
bring instant health benefits. Jane Anderson,

hether it was painting pictures or
writing poems, most of us had a
hobby – if not several – that we
did at home as children. As we
get older and busier, every spare
moment often gets consumed with other things
such as jobs, housework and family life, leaving little
time to ourselves. But now is the perfect opportunity
to get back into hobbies. Dozens of recent studies
have linked hobbies with lower blood pressure,
improved mood, resilience against dementia and
even a healthier heart. But, more than that, hobbies
are a chance to do something just for you, and maybe
show you have hidden talents even you didn’t know
you possessed!
What’s more, it’s often easy to turn things you might
already be doing into a hobby, or stretch existing
interests into something more. In this ultimate hobby
guide, we’ll show you how to begin your adventure
into new hobbies from home and find novel, exciting
opportunities to transform your free time.

semi-autobiographical novels was
published 50 years ago this year, but
since then, his stories have continued
to be told. His books have never gone

countless dramatic adaptations of his
stories, from the much-loved 1978-

The Harrogate
Flower Show
Although some of our
favourite spring events
have been cancelled, there
may be a chance to attend
them in autumn, but we can
still look forward to next
year. This fortnight, the
Harrogate Flower Show!
Due to run: There may still be a
chance to attend this fantastic autumn
event in September – the spring flower
show had originally been scheduled for
April 22-25.
What it is: The event has been running
for almost 100 years and was founded
by the North of England Horticultural
Society, which wanted to showcase
seasonal plants and produce grown in
the notoriously chilly northern climate!

Kate Humble suggests that individuals can find comfort and hope during challenging times by engaging with nature, which helps to foster a sense of well-being and resilience. She points to the pandemic as a time that highlighted the environmental impact of human activity, noting improvements in air quality . Engaging in nature and environmental care can thus offer solace and a renewed sense of responsibility towards the planet . Additionally, engaging in activities like gardening or yoga can be therapeutic, aiding in stress relief and physical health, which aligns with broader environmental themes of living sustainably and harmoniously with nature .
Karren Brady's reflections highlight her deeply rooted values in family and friendship, emphasizing the importance of close bonds and mutual support. She credits her grandmother with instilling a strong work ethic and a philosophy of never looking down on others unless helping them up, showing respect and empathy as core values . Brady describes her children as her pride and joy, prioritizing their happiness and health while maintaining daily communication, illustrating her commitment to family and open communication . Additionally, she cherishes friendships, valuing them as essential for sharing life’s joys and challenges, indicating a belief in nurturing long-lasting, meaningful connections ."}
Mobile phones play a vital role in Karren Brady's life by helping her maintain connections with family and friends. She uses them to stay in touch daily through a family WhatsApp group filled with funny jokes, and she speaks every day with her best friend on the phone, demonstrating the importance of mobile communication in nurturing relationships . Despite the complexity sometimes associated with using smartphones, they offer various ways to stay connected, such as messaging and video calls, illustrating their significance in keeping in touch with loved ones .
