MEASURING EAR SAFETY FACTORS ON BJ HOOKS

Measuring link ears to determine the extent of wear should be performed as part of

the quarterly inspection of all BJ hooks.

With calipers, measure the depth of the link ear at the point of greatest wear (Dimen-
sion "A" in the accompanying drawing). Example: A worn Triplex Model 460 hook
with old-style ears (Serial numbers 1-861) measures 2-7/8". By referring to the cor-
rect capacity chart (top (eft). the capacity can easily be determined as 94 percent of

original.

Wear Limits. On all BJ hooks, repair at the factory is recommended when ear wear
reaches 1/2". In no case should wear exceed 3/4" before factory reconditioning by BJ- DIM. "A" (PT. OF
