THE CELEBRATION OF THE LIFE

OF JESUS CHRIST

SCENE 01

LUKE:
Dearest Theophilus,
I’m writing to you to give you a more detailed account on the life of Jesus Christ. I’m
doing this so that you know the truth with clarity about the faith that you have been
taught. This is an account of all of my findings.
On that day Augustus Caesar put out a order, that all who were under the Roman
Empire should be registered. As a result families returned to their land to be
censured. A man named Joseph took Mary, who was with child, to the little town of
Bethlehem. While they were there the time had come for the child to be born. Mary
gave birth to a son, wrapped him in a blanket
and laid him in a manger.
Somewhere around that corner were shepherds who were watching their flocks by
night…

[ON STAGE L]
SHEPHERDS: (walk around, then become afraid at the sight of an angel)
ANGEL:
Dont be afraid, I come with good news and great tidings to ALL people. To you is
born a Saviour in the town of David. He is Christ the Lord. You will see this and know
it is him: in a manger, you’ll see a child wrapped in swaddling clothes.
Glory to God in the highest, for there is peace and a good hope given to the sons of
men.

SHEPHERDS 01:
Come let us go to Bethlehem and see what has happened.

(Freeze while walking)

[ON STAGE R]
WISE MAN 01:
Where is He who has been born as the King of Jews.

WISE MAN 02:

We have seen his star.

WISE MAN 01:

We have come to worship Him.

HEROD:
(With a puzzled face)
Go, find Him. When you do, come tell me where He is so that I may go worship him
also.

WISE MEN: (freeze while walking )

LUKE:
The Wise men continued to follow the star, and the shepherds followed the direction
of the angel. After searching, they found the baby lying in a manger, wrapped in a
blanket .

(While Luke is talking, Mary and Joseph enter the stage with the Baby and
sit down at the center of both stages)
(Everyone unfreeze)
(Shepherds first find Jesus, worship him and rejoice)
(Wise men lay down three gifts and worship Jesus)
(Everyone except Luke exits stage)

SCENE 02
LUKE:
This child grew up in his fathers house, He was baptized by water and was baptized
by the Holy Spirit.
When he was about 30 years old, He went out to begin His ministry. And
everywhere He went, He was doing good.

(Luke exits stage)

[ON STAGE L]

2
(Jesus walking with disciples)
(Blind man begging)
BLIND MAN:
Jesus son of David, please sir, have pity on me.

(Disciples shush him)

BLIND MAN:
(Louder) Jesus son of David, have pity one me.
(Jesus signals him to come closer)
JESUS:
What do you want me to do for you?

BLIND MAN:
Let me receive my sight Lord

JESUS:
Receive for your faith has healed you.

(Blind man opens eyes and sees. He rejoices and joins Jesus and the
disciples)
(Everyone walks towards Stage R)
JAIRUS:
(Sobbing)
O Lord, please come see my daughter. She is unwell and she does not have much
time

JESUS:
I will go with you.

(Everybody walk towards STAGE L)

(Women crawling on the floor towards Jesus and she touches His cloak)
JESUS:
Who is it that touched me?

(Everyone looks around cluelessly)

JESUS:
Someone touched me, for I felt healing power leave my body.

WOMEN: (stands up and walks to the front)

3
It was I, Lord. I ave been suffering for many years and I’ve been bleeding endlessly. I
was so weak and afraid, I thought to myself, if I only touched the ends of His cloak id
be healed.

JESUS:
Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace.

(Woman follows Jesus and the disciples)

(Everyone enter stage L)
(Jairus runs ahead inside. He comes back wailing)
JAIRUS:
Oh no…my daughter is dead.

JESUS:
Do not fear, she will be well

(Everyone astonished, some make a mocking sound)

(Jesus walks in. A moment later he comes out with a child who is alive!)
(People gasp)
(Jairus hugs the child, and worships Jesus)
JESUS:
Keep this news and tell no one.

(Everyone exits stage)

SCENE 03
LUKE:
Who is this man? This is who He was. (Takes out scroll and quickly runs
through the genealogy of Jesus.)….the Son of God. The promised son of David
who would be the light of revelation to people of all nations and also who would
bring Glory to the nation of Israel. He is the son of man who came to seek and save
all that is lost.
But as prophesied by the prophets, he will be hated by men, he will be handed over
to men to be scoffed and insulted, to be flogged and to be killed.
When it seems like all hope has been lost… you will see what happens next

[STAGE R]
PHARISEE 01:

4
Who is this man named Jesus Christ. And under what authority is he causing trouble
among us?

PHARISEE 02:
We need to stop him from causing more damage.

PHARISEE 01:
We must crucify him for his deeds

PHARISEE 02:
We need a plan

[STAGE L]
(Jesus surrounded by his disciples)
(Jesus takes the bread, prays over it, breaks it and shares. Then He takes
the wine)
JESUS:
This is my new covenant in My blood, which will be shed for you. But from among
you is one who will betray me!

(Every one look puzzled and inquire among the. Judas gets up and walks
towards STAGE R)
(Pharisee 02 hands over a bag of money to Judas)
(everyone exit stage)

SCENE 04
LUKE:
And that is how Jesus was betrayed. At a mount top, while He was with His disciples,
Judas accompanied with guards, betrayed Jesus with a single kiss. They took Him
away and locked Him up. They stripped His clothes and mocked Him.
The Sanhedrin questioned Him, “are you the Son of God? He replied, “just as you say,
I AM”. But when they heard Him they were furious.
They sent Him over to Pilate, who questioned Him, “are you the King of Jews?” He
replied, “just as you say, I AM”.
See, Pilate found him not guilty. He sent him away to Herod but Herod also found
him not guilty. But because of the crowd he had him flogged and returned him back
to Pilate.

5
Now it was Jewish custom to release one prisoner during the Passover. And hoping
that the crowd would release him, Pilate flogged him again. But, the crowd
screamed, “Don’t hand Him over, We want Barabbus the murder”
Afraid of the people, Pilate had Jesus crucified.
Those were the darkest days of Jerusalem.
When all hope seamed like it was lost…
On the third day, He rose again.

JESUS:
Why do you look so low and downcast

DISCIPLE 01:
Do you not know what has happened in the last few days? They have crucified Jesus
of Nazareth, who was a prophet and who did mighty words before God and men. The
women say they cannot find Him at the tomb. They said they had a vision of angels
who said that he was Alive!

DISCIPLE 02:
Astonished we went to look for Him. And we too did not find Him at the grave!

JESUS:
O, foolish men! Do you not know that what has been written of Christ the messiah
must come to pass? All this must happen He enters into His glory!
This is what is written, the Messiah should suffer. But on the third day rise from the
dead. Then repentance for the forgiveness of sins should be preached to all nations,
starting from Jerusalem.
You are now my witnesses. I am sending my Father’s promises upon you. Remain
here for awhile till you are clothed in power from heaven.
My time has now come.

(Jesus turns away from the disciples)

(Freeze)
LUKE:
This is the greatest gift of all. That our God, who loves us abundantly, would send
His own son, to all people, to offer us forgiveness of our sins and a way to a
greater life with Him. To both the Jews and the gentiles, the rich and the poor. HE
brings peace, comfort and good will to all men. To all those who will receive
Him.
To the most excellent Theophilus,
You are loved by God.
