What Can The Younger Generation Learn From Older People
In my opinion, the gap between generations should be seen as an asset - and not an
obstacle to be overcome. As young people can teach individuals from the older
generation something about technology, the elderly can give youngsters valuable
pieces of advice which are to be cherished a lifetime.
First of all, the elderly have beneficial experience behind their backs which they can
share with the youth. Having the wisdom of a person who lived much more years
than you did can help you enhance your skills. With the newly acquired knowledge
one can refrain from committing mistakes that are evitable. I do remember my
grandpa telling me not to brag about what I had as clothes or any other type of
belongings because it could cause the envy of somebody. At the time I ridiculed
what he advised me so sincerely. But later on, I realized that he spoke the truth. For
some time, I had the habit of pointing out what was bought for me and feeling
proud and content because of it. I do remember once when I got an mp3 player. I
told everyone at school about it and where kept it during the 15-min breaks.
Unfortunately, after one of those breaks it got stolen. From that day on, I started to
value my grandparents and their advice more.
Secondly, the older generations may provide an insight into the development of real
relationships and connecting with people in real time, without the use of any ‘smart’
device. They can show you how to create memories that last longer that your
Snapchat story and how doing things together with close friends and immediate
family like cooking or hiking could be more enjoyable than watching Netflix in your
PJs.
Finally, the younger generation can learn many more things from the older, if the
youngsters recognize the importance of sharing experience, being mindful of the
surroundings and spending time together. The older generations complement one
another in the upbringing and educating of the young ones. Without them no
progress could have taken place and no development could have been feasible.
