CUBEX MEGAMATIC

AQUILA Drill
SPECIFICATIONS AND FEATURES

DESCRIPTION: The Aquila is a hydraulic top hammer production drill mounted on a center
articulated carrier design for high mobility in underground mines with ramp access.

PERFORMANCE: The Aquila can be used to drill from 1 5/8 in. (41 mm) to 4 in. (102 mm)
diameter holes to a depth greater than 65 ft. (20 m). The range of drilling includes 360º ring in
107º of plane from 3º below horizontal to 15º past vertical.

• Steering, 40° articulation (Dual steer cylinders)
• Suspension. 10° engine end axle oscillation
• Tires, 12:00 x 24 HRL, pneumatic
• Alternator, 24v DC, 105 amp
• Exhaust, Catalytic purifier
• Standard 4-wheel drive
• Four (4) stabilizer jacks, 14 ton capacity each with 16 in. (406 mm) stroke.

2. Feed Assembly
• The mast overall length is 11ft. 4-1/2 in. (3467 mm) for 5 ft. (1.5 m) drill rods.
• It has one (1) stinger cylinder assembly set and one (1) feed extension cylinder.
• The two (2) stage telescopic feed cylinder has 73-1/2 in. (1867 mm) stroke and
10,900 lbs (48.3 kN) of hoisting and pull-down power.
• The top hammer mounting plate has long wearing replaceable sliders for positive
control of top hammer movement up and down the mast. The V-notched sliders run
on replaceable stainless steel wear strips.
• Urethane sliders are also used on the mast connection plate and allow the mast with
v-bars to be extended easily with a firm movement.

2(a) Centralizing Clamp

• Hydraulic clamps having replaceable inserts.
2(b) Carousel
• One (1) 12 rod capacity magazine, can handle 6 ft. (1.83 m) long ITH rods, sizes up
to 2 in. O.D. (51 mm). – 78 ft. (24 M) capacity inclusive.
• Max. carousel capacity is 30m.

4. Compressor – Optional

5. Water Injection
• Water for dust suppression is injected with a hydraulic driven, positive
displacement, triplex pump. The 36 gpm (136 lpm) piston pump is driven by a
hydraulic motor and is used to supply water for flushing. The pump is set to produce
145 psi (10 bar) of pressure.

6. Oil injection system – For Top Hammer

• Oil for hammer lubrication is injected into the air stream with an air driven, positive
displacement pump producing up to 6 gpm (22.7 lpm) at 1000 psi (69 bar). This
pump system includes a non-pressurized 5 gal. (20 litre) reservoir tank.
Hammer Lubrication – For ITH
• Positive metering of either:
o grease lubricant - type 000NLG1
o rock drill oil
• Total metering capacity:
o Max. 1500cc/hr (1.5 liter)
o Min. 60 cc/hr
• Two metering adjustments - manual stop on injector and cycle timer
• Fully automatic
• Five (5) gallon (20 litre) lubricant reservoir
• Warning light for low lubricant level in container and injection fault

7. Positioning
• The feed is positioned horizontally for tramming and can be dumped for drilling from
3° below horizontal to 15° past vertical, under the drill.
• 360° swing of the feed is accomplished with a rack and pinion rotary actuator. The
actuator has a torque capacity of 300,000 in-lbs. (33,900 Nm).
• For quick positioning over the hole’s collar position, the drill has a horizontal slide
over feature with 30 in. (760 mm) of travel. This has 50,000 lbs. (22,680 kg) of
capacity for dump and hoist of the feed.
• The feed is extended to bring it in contact with the rock face using the feed extension
cylinder. This cylinder has 39 in. (990 mm) of stroke.
• Fixing of the feed is done with the stinger cylinder assembly, which has two sets of
two (2) opposite acting cylinders. These cylinders can be extended 48 in. (1220 mm)
to an overall length of 17 ft. 10 in. (5436 mm).

8. Hydraulics
• At the heart of the open loop hydraulic systems are two (2) variable displacement,
load sensing, pressure compensated pumps. Each produces 34 gpm (124 lpm) @
3000 psi (207 bar). One pump dedicated for percussion and the other for setup,
rotation and all other functions.
• Oil is stored and cooled in two separate tanks. The main tank has a capacity of 66
gal. (250 l.) while the auxiliary tank, for the percussion circuit, holds 53 gal. (200 l.)
• Oil filtration is done three (3) times first through a 10 micron fill filter, then through a 5
micron high pressure filter and finally through a 10 micron return filter.

Doc403-12Rev02A
• Oil is also cooled using a shell and tube cooler
• The hydraulic system is split into two isolated systems to prevent cross contamination
from the percussion circuit to the other system that operates all the other hydraulic
circuits. There are two complete systems including pump, filters and tanks.

9. Controls
• Electric/hydraulic controls are mounted on a wheeled remote control stand that
allows drilling from any location within 50 ft. (15.24 m) of the drill.
• The control panel comes with:
o On/off button and power on light
o Pressure gauges for air, hold back, pull-down and rotation
o Hold back and pull-down controls
o Controls for all drilling functions
• Reverse drilling valve
• Digital Gauge Set which displays the following:
o Hold back hydraulic pressure
o Pull down hydraulic pressure
o Percussion pressure
o Rotation hydraulic pressure

10. Electrical
• All electrical components are enclosed in a NEMA / CEMA 4 panel.
• This panel contains:
• Delta-wye starter
• Circuit breaker
• On/off and reset buttons
• Phase loss/phase reversal protection
• Motor overload protection
• Fail-safe Safety shut downs
• Low mine water pressure shut down
• Low hydraulic oil level
