LOYALTY TO KING AND COUNTRY : A STUDENT’S STORY

I felt blessed to live in this beautiful, greenery, and peaceful place called

Pengkalan Hulu. Every morning, I wake up early in the morning as freeze as ice with

melody sound of birds and cock-a-doodle-do sounds from my neighbour house. With

a beautiful smile on my face I opened the door to feel the freezing breeze which

carries peaceful and prosperity to my heart.

My heart pounds secretly,“I am so blessed. Every day is a beautiful start for a

year 6 student with warm hugs from my parents as well as the lovely harmony

environment.” I always pray for my place to stay as it is forever. My diligent

headmistress Madam M. Selvarani made me change the thought once on her speech

during morning assembly. She asked us “Who is very important person in your life?”

I never think for long to answer the question, the first person came out in my

mind was my parents. Like a magic witch, she predicted my answers. Her next

questions just made me extremely sorrowful. I was thinking of the question for the

whole day. The question was just disturbing me more and more every minutes.

I started to ask myself the questions thousand times. At one point, I felt I need

someone to guide me to answer the critical question. In a blink of eyes, my class

teacher, Miss Kasduri went across me. I ran as fast as I can to catch her to solve my

dilemma.

Miss Kasduri asked me, “What was you thinking since morning?”

I replied to her, “Teacher, how would I live this life if I lost my parents in war? I

have no one to hug, to kiss, and to feed me?”

“WAR?” she asked me in great shock.

I was puzzled for a few second.

Miss Kasduri replied me in shock, “Please, don’t worry my dear. Your parents
will always beside you and there will no war in this peaceful country. You know

why?”

I just stand there like a stone there.

With my favourite smile Miss Kasduri explained that Malaysia is a peaceful,

prosperity and harmony country. She said that loyalty is demanded from the citizens

through sincere devotion. His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the Kings and

Governors are symbols of unity therefore His Majesty is not involved in politics.

When I heard the word ‘loyalty’, the first thing popped in my mind was the second

National Principle “Loyalty To King and Country”.

I understood that loyalty towards other countries is contrary to the undivided

loyalty towards our Nation. I realized I should look more wider than my own family

and my surrounding.
