In this chapter consists of two parts. They were result and disscussion. result and
disscussion presented based on the research questions that related to the occurance
In this research, the researcher used three major phases in data analysis by Miles
and Huberman in qualitative research for reporting the result. The first step was
data reduction that the researcher summarizes the data, select the key points and
focuses on the things that are important. The second step was data display which
has been described in the form of data table in order to be meaningful and be more
easily understand. The last step was conclusion drawing/verification that the
This research was aimed to expose a phenomena called as character education that
integrated in the textbook as a media that commonly use in the teaching and
learning process. Furthermore, the researcher expected that the result of this
research could be a useful for the reader, and could be a reference for the other
researcher.

According to Miles and Huberman, there are three major phases of data analysis:
data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification.1 These are a

and transforming the data that appear in written up field notes or transcriptions. In
data reduction, the mass of data has to be organized and meaningfully reduced or
reconfigured.2
After the researcher collected, reviewed, and analyzed the texts in the English
textbook entitled Bright an English for Grade IX of Junior High School Students
Students, the researcher found in that English textbook there are 3 kinds of short
essay texts as follows: narrative text, report text, and procedure text. Also the
researcher found the short functional texts in that English textbook there are
greeing cards, and invitation cards. Meanwhile, in this research the researcher
focused on analyzing in the short essay tetxs there are narrative text, report text,
and procedure text. So, the data reduced by the researcher was the data of the
functional texts that consist in the English textbook entitled Bright an English.
