Why Cleansing of Tarot Cards is Necessary?
Anything that is related to energy or spiritual connection needs cleansing. The reason behind cleansing
is very simple – the energy can be good or bad, compatible or non-compatible, visible or invisible. The
energies may disturb your energy field and drawing of the right tarot cards may be interrupted. Hence, it
is the most important task to cleanse your tarot cards before and after you use them for reading – be it
for yourself or for others.
How to Know When the Cards Need Cleansing?
As mentioned above, the cards need to be cleansed most importantly before and after the readings.
However, sometimes you will sense some external energy connected with the cards and you will have
urge to clean the card right away. Well, the energy talks. As you will get more into the energy field, the
sense of recognising the energy will develop and grow stronger and stronger. So, you don’t have to
make a chart or a checklist for cleansing your own tarot cards.
Other situations when the tarot cards cleansing is mandatory are as follows: -
• When you have given your cards in other’s hands.
• You have recently purchased a new deck of tarot cards
• You have had a tiring and heavy tarot reading session
• When you are unable to connect with your cards
• You feel that your cards are exposed (not touched) to some others who is surrounded with
negativity.
• After readings for each client – if there are two clients then cleanse your cards after done
reading for the first one and then read the cards for the second client.
How to Cleanse your Tarot Deck
There are various ways of cleansing the energy carrying tarot cards. But the most important is how you
feel right to cleanse and what makes you comfortable for cleansing purpose. If you are not happy with
your cleansing method and while you are cleansing it, you are surrounded with negative thoughts then
you are basically pondering negative energy in it instead of cleansing it. So, whatever makes you happy
while cleansing the tarot cards, you can choose that.
Here are few ways that can be used for tarot cards cleansing process –
1.Meditation- Hold your cards in both hands, close your eyes and relax.Allow your mind to be free of any
thought and just ‘be’ with your cards. You may then like to visualise the Universal energy being drawn
through you and to your cards, surrounding your cards in a protective white light.
2.Using Crystal Wand – some techniques by which you can cleanse your tarot cards:
▪️Take clear quartz pencil or wand and focus on its tip. Use your third eye (place between your brows) to
command the crystal to get programmed for cleansing your tarot deck. Take the pencil and move it over
the tarot deck in anticlockwise direction for cleansing purpose. Rotate it 10-11 times, more if you feel
some dark and heavy energy around your cards. Imagine your deck is releasing black smoke in the air
and vanishing in violet or white light. Lastly cleanse your crystal with water and keep aside.
▪️Decorate some crystals around your tarot deck to keep it cleansed and protected.
▪️If energy is too heavy around the cards, use black tourmaline pencil or wand. Repeat the above process
but this time you have to focus on the word “unwanted, dark energy.”

*3. Using Sage Bundle:Sacred smoke of the sage bundle cleanse everything from inside out and
removes the negativity from wherever the smoke goes. Use the sage bundle for cleansing your tarot
deck too. Burn on one side of sage bundle like that of Agarbatti and let the smoke pass through your
tarot deck.Agarbatti can also be used.
4. Using Reiki Symbols:Those who are attuned with Reiki Level 2 at least, can use reiki symbols for
cleansing your cards. The symbols can be used as follows: -
Symbol no.1 (Cho Ku Rei) + Symbol no. 2(Sei Hei Ki) + Symbol No. 1 (Cho Ku Rei).
Sometimes when energy is not that heavy then on Symbol No. 1 can also cleanse your tarot deck clearly.
5. Using Dowsing Pendulum: Be it crystal pendulum or any other metal pendulum, the magic of
pendulum dowser is unbelievable. You can use this for cleansing your tarot deck if you already own a
pendulum dowser. Simple let the pendulum hang over the tarot deck and give your dowser the
command to cleanse the tarot deck and it will start rotating in anticlockwise direction.
