General Wash Care Label Requirements
A care label must contain the following information:
1. Cleaning: Machine wash, hand wash, dry-clean, etc.
The following details must be provided:
• Temperature (cold, warm)
• Special machine settings (gentle cycle, etc.)
• Special instructions (wash separate, remove promptly, rinse thoroughly etc.)
• “Do not dry clean” only if tests show that dry cleaning is harmful to the garment.
• “Dry clean only” only if tests show that any other cleaning method would be harmful to the garment.
2. Bleaching:
• Chlorine bleach is generally harmful to the most of the garments so Chlorine bleach is not be used.
• If “Non-Chlorine- Bleach” (NCB) can be used without harming the garment, then we must put
the symbol for Non-Chlorine-Bleach on the label.
• “Do not bleach” can only be used if tests show that Non-Chlorine-Bleach is harmful to the garment.
3. Drying: Tumble dry, line dry, flat dry,
etc. The following details must be
provided:
• Temperature (high, low, no heat, etc.)
• Special machine settings (permanent press, etc.)
• Special instructions (do not lay wet, re-shape to dry, dry in shade, etc.)
4. Ironing:
The following details must be provided:
• Temperature (warm, cool, etc.)
• Special instructions (iron on reverse side, steam only, etc.)
5. Any other information necessary for the proper care of the garment.
