What's new in Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6

MP4
This version of Symantec Endpoint Protection includes new features, changes, or
improvements in the following areas:
■ You can now define the maximum bandwidth that a Group Update Provider
allows for client downloads.
Release notes 7
Known issues and workarounds

■ Symantec Endpoint Protection automatically excludes the program components

and archives for the Veritas-branded backup products Backup Exec, NetBackup,
and System Recovery.
■ Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager displays file hash information in reports.
■ Symantec Endpoint Protection for Linux displays a notification area icon in the
Ubuntu 14.04 operating system.
In addition, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.6 MP4 is the last version to support:
■ 11.x or 12.0, which reached end of support life on January 5th, 2015. This
support includes Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager migration from 11.x
or 12.0, importing an 11.x client package, and the downloading and hosting of
definitions and other content for 11.x.
■ vShield-enabled Shared Insight Cache (VSIC) and Security Virtual Appliance
(SVA).
■ The installation of Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager on a 32-bit operating
system, or on Windows XP or Windows Server 2003.
■ A SQL Server 2005 database for Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.
For details, see Symantec Endpoint Protection migration considerations.

Installation information
This section includes information about installing the product.

Adding new replication partner fails during database creation

(3908146)
When you add a new replication partner, the database replication fails at the
Management Server Configuration Wizard screen with the message, "The remote
site could not finish aggregating data for replication. Check the logs on the remote
Release notes 8
Known issues and workarounds

site for more information, address any issues, and try again." When this failure
occurs, you must cancel the Management Server Configuration Wizard and begin
the process again.
This issue occurs when you do not click on the option to accept the remote site's
security certificate within 60 seconds. To prevent this issue, click Yes as soon as
you are prompted to trust the certificate, every time you are prompted. A future
release resolves this issue.

Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager information

This section contains information about Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager.

Help does not include information about maximum bandwidth

for client downloads from a Group Update Provider
In Symantec Endpoint Protection Manager, the context-sensitive Help topic Group
Update Provider does not include descriptive information for the setting Maximum
bandwidth allowed for client downloads from Group Update Provider. The
description is as follows:
Maximum bandwidth allowed for client downloads from Group Update
Provider: Use this option if you want to set up a GUP to service multiple sites that
have a few clients only. You want to minimize the bandwidth for the sites that have
low connectivity and where you want to avoid content storms when you deliver a
full set of content definitions.

SymHelp is now SymDiag

In the Symantec Endpoint Protection client and for Symantec Endpoint Protection
Manager, you see references to the Symantec Help tool, or SymHelp. These
references appear in the context-sensitive Help and in the user interface. However,
when you click the link to obtain the tool, you instead see the Symantec Diagnostic
Tool, or SymDiag. This behavior is expected. The tool's name change is recent,
and came too late for these references to be changed in this version.

■ Windows 8.1 to Windows 10
■ Windows 8 to Windows 10
■ Windows 7 to Windows 10

Note: Windows 7 does not include Early Launch Antimalware (ELAM). Therefore,
the Symantec Endpoint Protection ELAM component is not enabled, and does
not enable after you upgrade to Windows 10 with Symantec Endpoint Protection
installed. Your protection level is the same as it was with Windows 7.
To allow Symantec Endpoint Protection to recognize ELAM and enable the
Symantec Endpoint Protection ELAM component, you must uninstall and reinstall
Symantec Endpoint Protection. You can also upgrade from 12.1.6 MP1 to the
latest version of Symantec Endpoint Protection to recognize the ELAM
component. Repairing the client installation does not enable the ELAM
component.
