(PDF) 13.1a Beam-Column Joints Design Examples - pp.269-277 - CIVL3320 - 2017!05!08 - Compress

This document provides an example of designing and detailing an exterior beam-column joint according to HKConcrete2013. It calculates the forces in the beams and columns, checks the horizontal and vertical shear stresses, and designs the horizontal and vertical joint shear reinforcement. The horizontal joint shear reinforcement consists of 3 sets of T16 hoops at 150mm centers. Vertical joint shear reinforcement consists of the main column bars plus 2T12 intermediate bars at each vertical face. The reinforcement details are shown in figures.

6 Worked Examples
Examples for Design and Detailing

Two worked examples are given to show the design and detailing of

(1) an exterior joint with vertical joint shear reinforcement, and

(2) an interior joint without vertical joint

The middle main column bar  (T32) at each vertical face of the joint may be

used to serve as an intermediate bar . However, the spacing of main column bars

is larger than 200 mm; hence provide two intermediate bars (2T12) at each

vertical face of the joint. The arrangement of joint reinforcement is shown in
