“When I worked on my game, that's what I thought about. When it happened, I set another goal, a
reasonable, manageable goal that I could realistically achieve if I worked hard enough. I guess I
approached it with the end in mind. I knew exactly where I wanted to go, and I focused on getting
there.” – Michael Jordan
Absences and Tardies
Make up work is YOUR responsibility. Graded make up work may only be considered if the absence is
excused. This work must be made up within 5 school days after your return to school. Work assigned
prior to your absence will be expected upon your return to school. Unexcused absences result in a zero on
work/tests (JHS Student Handbook, 5).
A new tardy policy has been instituted: 4 tardies = 1 absence. Students that are tardy to class will
have to get a tardy pass from the office. Excessive absences will result in a parent conference and/or
disciplinary action.
“ The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll
go.” – Dr. Seuss

Literature
This course is designed in the hope that we will read different genres of literature that reflect the world.
We will do this through poetry, a play, and prose. A list of literature we may read during this course:
• The Odyssey by Homer
• Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare
• Night by Elie Wiesel
• Great Expectations by Charles Dickens
If you choose not to read, you will miss a great deal of learning and insight. To encourage your reading,
you should expect reading quizzes. We will also write about the literature we read and you will most
likely receive study guides for most literature we read.
