  • Introduction and Background

Dear Mr/Ms.

My name is Vinu John Panicker and I hail from Kerala, which is the southernmost part of India. I am
a Structural Engineer with over 6 years of experience in the Transportation sector (Highway
Infrastructure).
I did my Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering in 2012 and had completed my Post Graduation in Structural
Engineering in the year 2014 after which I joined a Private Structural Consultancy which had an
organization size of 20 members. It is where I currently work. Starting my career in a small
organization helped me grow a lot in a short span of period as most of the work to be performed was
shared among a peer group of professionals. My area of expertise is in Highway Infrastructures which
mainly constitutes of Bridges, Flyovers, cross drainage works etc.
The process of Building Information Modeling (BIM) had become quite popular in the Indian AEC
industry over the past few years. I heard the term BIM while I was pursuing my Post Graduation.
Since then I tried to gather more knowledge and information about the process of BIM through
reading and browsing for articles online. I tried to learn a few of the BIM software like Autodesk
Revit through online tutorials. I became quite fascinated by what BIM could achieve and how it does
it. That’s when I set my goal to be a successful BIM Engineer. But where I work, we do not use the
practice of BIM. Only a small number of Construction firms in India implements BIM. From online
tutorials, you get only the basic applications of the software. Being a Structural Engineer, I learnt only
the design and analysis part of the software. I know that there is a lot more to it which I haven’t
experienced yet. So, I started looking for institutions which could teach or train me to use the practice
of BIM to its full potential. I was able to find only a handful of them which seemed authentic. Out of
the few I found, only the Master's programme offered by Zigurat Global Institute of Technology
covered Infrastructure Projects. After talking to the course consultant at Zigurat Global Institute of
Technology, I found out that the course content of the Master's programme in Global BIM
Management for Infrastructure Projects was what I was looking for. I talked to a few of the alumni of
Zigurat Global Institute of Technology and every one of them recommended me to take the course. I
was quite happy that my decision to enrol in the Master’s programme was in the right direction.
Being a Structural Engineer with over 6 years of experience, I have developed good analytical and
software skills over the period. I am good at software and a quick learner. So, I will be able to help or
assist my co-learners in using the software if required. I have good logical and coding skills which I
can share with my group. I would be able to share my experience working in different infrastructure
projects; the difficulties faced and the troubleshooting carried out. I am hardworking and a good team
player. I have worked under strict delivery schedules and I do manage time well.
I hope to get the opportunity to study with you at Zigurat Global Institute of Technology and help me
achieve my goal to be a successful BIM Engineer. Thank you for taking the time to review my
application. I look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Vinu John Panicker
