Will robots Replace Real People?

A human-like robot called Aiko Chihira works as a shop assistant in the Mitsukoshi department store in Tokyo,
Japan. Aiko dresses like a human, has human-like features and can speak a number of languages. She is the first
robot to work in the retail industry but, if scientists are right, she won’t be the last!
Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro, the director of Intelligent Robotics Laboratory at Osaka University, says soon robots will
even work in the media and entertainment industries, singing and starring in films! He claims that robots are better
performers than humans because they don’t get tired or make mistakes. The robots he makes look very human.
Their silicone skin looks like ours, and they can make facial expressions to show different emotions.
But Ishiguro is taking his robots a step further. He’s going to program them to have independent goals, hopes and
desires. They’ll also be able to recognise different people’s faces, speech and personalities. In fact, his robots will
be able to socially interact with humans so well that, according to him, they’ll soon become our closest companions.

11 People visit the department store just to see Aiko Chihira. .......
12 No robot had worked in a shop before Aiko Chihira. .......
13 Professor Ishiguru thinks that robots will be actors in the future. .......
14 Professor Ishiguru’s robots cannot show any feelings. .......
15 Professor Ishiguru thinks we will spend a lot of time with robots in the future. .......
