Preliminary Investigation: Computer-Based Inventory System

This document summarizes a preliminary investigation into implementing a computer-based inventory system at Angel's Burger company. Currently, the manual inventory system is slow, time-consuming, and lacks accurate data retrieval. A computerized system could eliminate human error, provide live updates and analytics, and ensure only authorized access. It is recommended that Angel's Burger company implement this new computerized inventory system to improve accuracy, organization, efficiency and save time and money.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION

COMPUTER-BASED INVENTORY SYSTEM

INTRODUCTION

As the result of this preliminary investigation that I have gathered from Angel’s Burger
company’s existing system, I have planned and designed a much effective and much helpful
way of inventory processing system, that is the computer-based inventory system. With this
computerized inventory system their management could eliminate human error, save time, get
live updates, sync stocks and understand sales figures. It will give more reliable and faithful
representative of data/information to each deserving employee.

SYSTEMS REQUEST SUMMARY

The problems which result from the existing system of the inventory in Angel’s Burger company
are the major hindrances in preparing an inventory data/information, with the use of
computer-based inventory system they could avoid human errors and problems with regards to
the data results.
Only authorized personnel are allowed to access the system to keep it well-safeguarded.
This system will help process inventory faster than the existing system. You just need to enter
all the data/information in a well-organized manner then you will get the best result you
wanted.

PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION FINDINGS

The following problems were found during the preliminary investigation:

 Lack of storage
 Manual system is slow to operate
 Time consuming
 Slow retrieval of data

The following factors contribute to the grading system problems:

 Lack of storage. It is due to manual inventory system processing they couldn’t track the
amount of the products stored in the stock room and new products are over supplied.
 Manual system is slow to operate. It is because inventory processing is done by human
not by the use of computer.
 Time consuming. Manual inventory consumes lot of time because it is not easy to track
amount of stocks and amount sold well. Hard to identify which item is out of stock and
which is not.
 Slow retrieval of data. It is because human memory is not that accurate than of
computer.

RECOMMENDATION

It is recommended that this computerized system should be implemented in Angel’s Burger

company. Efforts should be made by the company to ensure all the records regarding the items
are properly entered into the system. It is also recommended that the computerized system
should replace the manual inventory system of stock recording and processing in order to
hasten managerial decision.

EXPECTED BENEFITS

At the end of the development period, the system shall have been to:

 Improved the accuracy of the company’s inventory orders

 Lead to a more organized storage room
 Help save time and money
 Increase efficiency and productivity
 Keep customers coming back
