DTS-Si technology uses grooves in the cylinder to generate swirling air-fuel mixtures, improving combustion, efficiency, and power over standard spark ignition engines. Rotating flows like swirl can significantly increase turbulence and flame propagation speeds, reducing combustion time. This allows for leaner mixtures and expansion of the lean limit while reducing variations. DTS-Si builds on DTS-i by adding swirl to further improve combustion quality at light loads by generating high turbulence for more uniform mixing and combustion under lean conditions.

ABSTRACT

Seminars Topics
DTS-Si stands for digital twin spark - swirl ignition, it is similar to DTS-i
technology difference being the cylinder has grooves which causes
turbulence of the air fuel mixture entering the cylinder making it 'swirl'
hence better combustion takes place, giving better efficiency and
power. A review has been made of rotating flow (swirl and tumble) in
premixed spark-ignition engines and its effects on turbulence
generation and flame propagation. Rotating flow can significantly
increase turbulence intensity during the combustion period.

This in turn can lead to a reduced burning period and increased

thermal efficiency. Rotating flow, possibly in combination with squish,
can be particularly important for combustion of lean mixtures or with
alternative fuels of low laminar flame speed. In general, rotating flow
can substantially increase flame propagation speed, reduce cyclic
variations, and expand the lean limit, though excessive rotational
motion can have deleterious effects on induction system flow
resistance and also on heat transfer and thermal efficiency.

Digital Twin Spark–Swirl induction or DTS Si technology is based on

the DTS-i platform. The DTS-i provides the fast rate of combustion.
Bajaj R&D found out that when burning lean air-fuel mixture, the two
plugs provide rapid combustion. However, at light loads, there is
further scope to improve the combustion quality. Normally, under
these conditions, the quality and concentration of the air-fuel mixture
vary from one area to another within the combustion chamber.
However, by generating high turbulence inside the combustion
chamber; the efficiency of combustion further improves under lean air-
fuel mixture conditions.
