INSTALLATION PROCEDURES
PREPARATION
2/4
Clean and dry all surfaces by removing foreign matter and contaminants such as oil, dust, grease, water, dirt, old sealants and
any protective coating. Dust and loose particles should be blown out of joints or vacuum cleaned. Non porous surface may
require preparation / priming. Cleaning solvents should not be allowed to dry or evaporate without being wiped with a clean,
dry cloth.
PRIMING
For maximum performance on porous surfaces and in all immersed applications use Bostik N49 Primer prior to any application
of Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637).
APPLICATION
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) should be dispensed from the sausage by means of a caulking barrel gun. Cut the end of the sausage
and place in barrel gun and screw the end cap and nozzle on to the barrel gun. Using the trigger, extrude the sealant, to stop,
depress using the catch plate. Apply the sealant in a continuous bead using enough pressure to properly fill the joint. Smooth
the sealant with a small steel trowel or with a flexible closed cell polyethylene trowel to the required surface level.
JOINT DESIGN GEOMETRY
Ensure maximum adhesion to the bond face use a width to depth ratio of 1:1 for joint widths up to 12mm and wide joint 2:1
for joint widths from 12mm to 50mm.
CLEANING
Clean up uncured material and equipment immediately after use with an applicable cleaning solvent. Avoid contact of solvents
on skin.
CONSTRUCTION SEALANT APPLICATION PROCEDURES
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) is especially suitable for vertical joint sealing or in flooring applications such as saw cut jointing.
More joint movement can be accommodated in a thin bead of sealant than a thick bead. The ratio of joint width of sealant to
depth should be 2:1. The use of bond breaker prevents undesirable three-sided adhesion. Open cell polyurethane foam or
closed cell polyethylene foam rod is the recommended backup material to control sealant geometry.
Install back up material or joint filler, as specified. Apply Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) continuously using positive pressure to
properly fill and seal the joint. Tool the sealant with adequate pressure to spread the sealant against the back up material and
onto the joint sides. Excess sealant should be wiped from all surfaces while still uncured. Remove any masking tape that has
been positioned prior to sealant curing / skinning.

CONSTRUCTION ADHESIVE APPLICATION PROCEDURES
3/4
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) does not need to be applied to both surfaces to bond, but both surfaces must be prepared in
accordance with preparatory work.
Apply in beads or daubs to the prepared substrate. Materials being adhered can be bonded immediately or left open for up to
15 minutes after application prior to bonding. If no mechanical fixing is to be used in conjunction with adhesive, clamping is
necessary until full cure is achieved.
Use only enough sealant to achieve adequate bond (dependant on surface texture). Excess sealant can be removed by dry cloth
or solvent wipe before curing.
If adhesive is to be exposed, smooth off with spatula or putty knife to flush finish.
IMPORTANT NOTE
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) is not suitable to be used in chlorinated water such as swimming pools, spas etc. Its temperature
resistance is between -30°C and +70°C. Do not allow any bitumen to contact Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637). It should not be constantly
immersed in salt water. It is advised not to apply Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) on cement based substrates within 14 days of
casting or used in trafficable joints greater than 10mm in width.
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) can be painted after full cure, but coatings containing high solvent content or high oil based
undercoats may cause the surface of the sealant to react creating a tacky surface to develop. High build coatings with some
elastomeric ability have the capability to absorb low movement without significant distortion of the paint film.
STANDARDS
Bostik Seal ‘N’ Flex 1 (2637) conforms to
• DIN 18540 (German), as a low modulus external joint sealant
• ASTM C.920-87 & 98 (USA) as Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, use NT, G, A, M, & O as an external joint sealant
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
Store between 5°C and 30°C, out of direct sunlight. Shelf life is one year in original unopened cartridge or sausage.
