PATRAN To COSMOS Translator Version 2.95: 1. Installation and Execution

The PAT2COS translator converts models from PATRAN to COSMOS by: 1. Copying the translator file into the COSMOS directory and running it on a PATRAN neutral file. 2. Analyzing the PATRAN model and performing transformations to convert it to a COSMOS input model stored in a ".GEO" file. 3. Converting PATRAN elements like bars, triangles, and shells to equivalent COSMOS element types like trusses, beams, and solids.

PATRAN to COSMOS Translator Version 2.

95

1. Installation and Execution.

a - Please copy the translator file into your COSMOS directory.
b - In your work directory, create the PATRAN neutral file (PHASE-II)
for your finite element model.
c - Type PAT2COS.
d - Answer the question prompts.

2. PAT2COS Translator Capabilities.

The PAT2COS translator version 2.95 generates a GEOSTAR input file
(".GEO") from your PATRAN neutral file input.
The translator analyzes your model and internally performs the proper
transformations to convert your PATRAN model to a COSMOS
input model.

3. PAT2COS Translator Entity Conversion.

a - Coordinate systems.
b - Nodes.
c - PATRAN elements (BAR, TRI, QUAD4, TET, PYR, WEDGE, HEX) to the
following element groups:

MASS General Mass elements

SPRING Spring elements
TRUSS2D Two dimensional Truss / Spar elements
TRUSS3D Three dimensional Truss / Spar elements
BEAM2D Two dimensional Elastic Beam elements
BEAM3D Three dimensional Elastic Beam elements
TRIANG Three node triangular elements
PLANE2D Two dimensional 4 to 8 node plane elements
SHELL3 Three node shell elements
SHELL4 Four node shell elements
SOLID Three dimensional solid (8-20 Node) elements
TETRA4 Four node tetrahedral solid elements
TETRA10 Ten node tetrahedral solid elements

d - Material properties.
e - Geometric properties (Real constant).
f - Nodal prescribed constraints.
g - Nodal and element loads (Static and Thermal).
COSMOS to PATRAN Translator Version 2.95

1. Installation and Execution.

Please copy the translator file into your COSMOS directory.
Then, in your work directory, create your model with any
available COSMOS preprocessor.
You may directly invoke the translator if you prefer to create a
model with COSMOS DESIGNER or GEOSTAR.
If you prefer to run the translator in system prompt, type COS2PAT
and then respond to the questions prompted.

2. COS2PAT Translator Capabilities.

The COS2PAT translator version 2.95 generates a PATRAN neutral file
(".PAT") from your COSMOS model.
The translator analyzes your model and internally performs the proper
transformations to convert your model to a PATRAN input model.

3. COS2PAT Translator Entity Conversion.
