receives an offer from Cloudskim which promised to pay him double the salary which he used to

Situational Analysis:

The case here talks about a company named BABA headed by Mr. Anil Baba. The protagonist here
is Sameer an assistant manager who works under an operations team led by Mrs. Ioano Ramano the
Vice President of the operations department. Sameer has been working with BABA for last five
years; he joined the company just after completing BS in Engineering but Sameer now wants to go
for an MBA to improve his skills in business although he cannot afford the fees, therefore he asks
Ioano to get his fees sponsored by requesting Anil on his behalf. Eventually, Anil agrees but on a
condition which stated that Sameer is compelled to join back the company after completing his
MBA and if he joins some other company then he has to repay the amount of fees sponsored.

After one year when he was about to complete his MBA he received a great offer for job from
‘Cloudskim’ a Silicon Valley startup with some serious backing. They offered Sameer double the
salary which he would be receiving after joining back his last company, along with it they offered
him to pay 50% of his MBA fees back to BABA Company. Although Sameer is a bit hesitant in
accepting the offer as he feels that he cannot break the promise with BABA Company by joining
some other company, as later on Mr. Anil would never trust anyone from his company for any
MBA sponsorship. So Sameer is in a Dilemma of whether to accept the offer of Cloudskim or go
back to BABA.

Problem Statement:

The problem here is for Sameer regarding a dilemma between accepting the offer from a company
providing twice his the salary he would be earning at BABA or go back to his previous company
which sponsored his MBA and made him promise to come back to the organization which would
also motivate his boss to send his other employees for an MBA which won’t be the case if does not
return.

Objectives:

 Sameer wants to pursue an MBA.

 He also wants to get his MBA sponsored.
 He wants a career growth.

Options and Evaluation:

1. Join BABA back after completing his MBA and keeps the promise.
Benefits:
 Mr. Anil would be impressed with Sameer’s loyalty and might give him a raise
 On seeing Sameer Mr. Anil won’t hesitate to send some of his other employees for
an MBA.
Limitations:
 Sameer would lose a great opportunity of working with a company who would
have paid him twice his salary at BABA.
 If he continued working in his previous company he won’t get much exposure as
he already has a 5 year work experience in that company and working in a new
company would have given him new experience.

2. Join Cloudskim and leave the job at BABA that is go against the promise with Mr. Anil.
Benefits:
 Sameer would get a great opportunity of working with bigger company than his
previous company.
 He would also get salary twice what he would earn at BABA
 Working in a new company after working in the same company for five years
would give a lot of exposure and new experience,
 Hereafter, his career would definitely grow.
Limitations:
 Sameer with lose his respect in front of both Mr. Anil and Ioano.
 Mr. Anil will never trust any of his other employees and stop providing MBA
sponsorships.
 Mr. Anil in order to take revenge from Sameer might criticize him in Sameer’s
conduct certificate which he would be receiving after his resignation.

Decision and Justification:

After evaluating all the above options and identifying the pros and cons of each and every option,
Sameer should join Cloudskim as it seems to be more logical option when though upon keeping in
mind the long term scenario. Working in a new company and earning a great salary would give him
a lot of exposure which he won’t be get by joining back BABA. Sameer should think smart than
being sympathetically. Twenty years down the line he won’t regret of choosing this option as he
would come across some great opportunities by working in a bigger organization while he might
regret if he chooses the other option of joining BABA back.

Action Plan:

1. Sameer should talk directly to Mr. Anil regarding the job offer and the opportunities it will
bring along.
2. Also he should thank Anil for sponsoring his MBA and assure him of returning the fees.
3. Sameer should accept the Cloudskim’s offer as soon as possible.

Contingency Plan:

If due to some reason option of joining Cloudskim could not be implemented then Sameer should
definitely join back BABA as promised with Mr. Anil. Opting for this option would show loyalty of
Sameer in front of his boss, also this would encourage Anil to send few of his other employees for
MBA and also sponsor there studies. Sameer will also get a higher position in the organization after
completing MBA and his relations with the higher department will also improve and among his
colleagues he would be considered as an idol.
