Principle 1: Responsibility to the Students

The educator has an obligation to treat students with equity and


respect, keeping the whole child in mind. An educator promotes safety,
health and well being of students by providing tools and guidance to
reach their full potential.

Educators will achieve this responsibility by…

1. Ensuring that students have a safe and productive learning


environment.
2. Seeking to understand a student’s educational, academic, personal
and social needs.
3. Taking time to understand a student’s values, beliefs, and cultural
background.
4. Communicating in a clear, respectful, and culturally sensitive
manner.
5. Maintaining confidentiality of student’s academic, personal, and
health records unless the student is in clear and immediate
danger.
6. Respecting the parent/legal guardian’s rights.
7. Respecting the student’s legal rights.
8. Communicating with parents/guardians in a timely fashion.
9. Being an advocate for students’ rights and needs.
10. Teaching information as facts and eliminating biases.
11. Involving students in goal setting and decision making with
learning.
12. Developing and teaching engaging, meaningful lessons.
13. Being involved in school and community events.
Principle 2: Responsibility to the Profession

The educator will show the highest amount of professionalism when


teaching and interacting within the school’s community (colleagues,
staff, supervisor, parents and stakeholders). Educators will be lifelong
learners to continually improve their teaching practice.

Educators will achieve this responsibility by…

1. Remaining committed to following the ethical code (this one or


one set by the school).
2. Understanding their obligation to ethical decision-making.
3. Seeking professional development.
4. Acting in a professional manner in community.
5. Acting professionally on social media.
6. Treating colleagues with respect.
7. Giving respect and value to other’s ideas and opinions.
8. Continuously reflecting on their teaching practice.
9. Sharing valuable knowledge/expertise with colleagues.
10. Participating in school and community events.
11. Declining any gifts of monetary value for the purpose of
influencing professional decisions.
12. Fulfilling job requirements/duties assigned to them.
13. Keeping open lines of communication with colleagues, other staff,
supervisor and parents.
