similarities?
And what are those? They all have auxiliary verbs like the verb
“have”.
They have Subjects.
They talk about the past.
C. Presentation and Discussion
Class when do we say the word “Perfect?” I used to say, “It’s perfect!” when
something good has done or happened.
Perfect for me means excellent or beyond
compare.
Can you still remember the meaning of It refers to the time of the action.
“tense” when we are talking about
grammar?
We’re done with the simple tenses, so
today; we will talk about the perfect tenses
of the verb.
If we are talking about grammar, “tense”
refers to the time of the action or state of
being while “perfect” comes from the Latin
word perfectum which means “complete”.
Therefore, perfect tense expresses action
that is already completed.
In constructing our sentences in this
lesson, we are using auxiliary/ helping
verbs just like “has”, “have”, and “had”.
Now, let’s discuss them one-by-one.
Present perfect tense
First, we have the Present perfect tense. It
expresses an action that is completed at
an indefinite time in the past but whose
result is relevant to the present.
The auxiliary verbs that we will use are:
“Has” or “have” (depends on the subject if
it is singular or plural) plus the past
participle of the verb. Just be careful in
using the regular and irregular form of
verbs.
Example:
I have been to Singapore on two
occasions. (I have been to Singapore on two
Jenny has brought many chocolates occasions.)
from France. (Jenny has brought many chocolates from
France.)
The other expressions used with the
present perfect tense are since, for,
already, yet/not, ever, never, finally often,
recently, etc.
Who wants to give an example using the
present perfect tense? (I have already submitted my project.)
We can also construct or change it into
negative sentence by adding not after (I have not received my report card yet.)
have. Where yet is used to denote negativity.
Past perfect tense
The second one is the Past perfect tense
that is used to indicate two actions in
which one action happened earlier than
the other.
We use had plus the past participle of
the verb.
Example:
I had lived in Pampanga before I (I had lived in Pampanga before I moved
moved to Manila. to Manila.)
Isabelle washed the dishes after (Isabelle washed the dishes after she had
she had finished reading the book. finished reading the book.)
Aside from expressions before and after, Example for negative sentence:
the past perfect tense also uses although, (He hadn’t seen the part from the movie
by, since, already and when depending on since he came out from the cinema.)
the intended meaning.
Now, can you give your example for past (We had cleaned up the whole place after
perfect tense? the party ended.)
Future perfect tense
The third one, which is the Future perfect
tense, expresses an action that will be
completed by some point in the future.
Our structure will be; will/ shall plus
have plus past participle of the verb.
Example:
She will have visited Tagaytay by (She will have visited Tagaytay by the end
the end of the next year. of the next year.)
They shall have written their essay (They shall have written their essay by
by tomorrow. tomorrow.)
Can you construct your own example for (You should have learnt Hangul by the
the future perfect tense? time you moved to Korea.)
Another activity:
“Never have I ever”
Mechanics: Each student will be given two Example: Never have I ever taken a nap
paper cards. The teacher will say, “Never and missed all my classes for the day.
have I ever” followed by a phrase she
wants the students to answer through “I have” or “never”.
raising one of the cards with written,
“I have” or “never”.
1. Never have I ever taken more than
one selfies in a day.

classroom.

parents where I am going.
