A. Course Design

Course Title: SHIELDED METAL ARC WELDING (SMAW) NC II


Nominal Duration: 268 HOURS

Qualification Level: NC Level II


Course Description: This course is designed to enhance the knowledge,
desirable attitudes and skills to perform shielded metal
arc welding work to the standard expected in the
workplace.

The course covers, competencies such as; utilize


specialized communications, develop team and individual
needs, apply problem solving techniques in the
workplace, perform workplace safety and housekeeping,
interpret blueprint, set up work area equipment and
accessories, prepare weld joints, deposit weld beads,
prepare materials and tools, and weld carbon steel pipes
and plates in all position for fillet and groove welds.

To complete the course, all units prescribed for this


qualification must be achieved:

Requirements:

 18 years old and above


 Good moral character
 Can communicate both orally and in written form.

Instructors/Trainers: To qualify as trainer for Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW)
NC II level, a person must:

 be certified of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II


 must be undergone training on Training Methodology I (TM I)
 be computer literate
 be able to communicate effectively both orally and in written form
 be physically, emotionally, psychologically and mentally fit
 have at least two (2) years’ experience in the industry
 possess good moral character
