Q1) Define sample space , Probability ,random variable, Bernoulli trials.
Q2) State in general the theorem for the probability of the two successive
events A and B .
Q3)State the fundamental principle of counting and explain with example.
Q4) Define and derive formula for combinations or selections of n things r at a
time in terms of number of permutations ie C(n, r) = n!/(n − r)!r! .
Q5) State and explain probability function for the random variable x.
Q6) Define and explain mean value , variance and standard deviation of
1) for a discrete set of random variable x and 2)for continuous set of values.
Q7) Explain the difference between probability distribution and distribution
function.
Q8) Explain Binomial Probability Functions and binomial cumulative distribution
function.
Q9) State and prove Chebyshev’s Inequality principle. Also state and prove
Laws of Large Numbers.
Or prove that for a continuous distribution function f(x) if t is any
number, then probability that x differs from its mean value μ by more than t,
is less than σ2/t2
Q10) Explain the normal or Gaussian distribution. Write equation for probability
density function and the cumulative distribution function and show that the
mean of x is μ and the standard deviation is σ .
Q11)When n is very large , show that exact binomial distribution is very close to
the normal approximation.
Q12) Define and explain Standard Normal Distribution.
Q13) Derive the equation for Poisson distribution.
Q14) Explain Poisson distribution and show that it is a good approximation to
the binomial distribution when p is so small.
Q15) What do you mean by parent population or universe in experimental
measurement. Estimate the Population average ,Variance and Standard
deviation of the Mean(ie Standard Error).
Q16)Show that the average of a large number of measurements is more likely to
be accurate than the average of a small number
