ORAL COMMUNICATION
ACTIVITIES FOR ORAL COMMUNICATION
Introduction
Oral or verbal communication describes any type of interaction between
individuals which makes use of words and involves speaking and listening. In
oral communication, the sender and receiver exchange their thoughts or ideas
verbally either in face-to-face discussion or through any mechanical or
electronic device like telephone or VOIP system like Skype. The ability to
communicate effectively through speaking is highly valued in business and
organization.

Dear SHS User,
In this module, you will watch and listen carefully to a video
presentation relevant to the topic. To deepen your understanding, you will
think critically and analyze given situations in real life simulations and video
presentations to apply effective oral communication.

LETS LEARN
Oral communication skills are fundamental to complete a holistic literacy of
an individual. Learners, indeed, have to develop these abilities to be
competent, job-ready and globally competitive.
In this module, there are five activities of oral communication that learners
are either daily engaged with or may experience in future professions.
These are the following:
Telephone Conversation It is a use of speech for informal exchange of
views, ideas or information over the telephone
Face-to-face Conversations It is also referred as personal discourse
that is meant to informally use for exchanging ideas, opinions, and beliefs
between two individuals
Business-related Oral Activities It is described as formal
communication type that includes meetings between and among employer
and employees, oral presentations and the like.
Classroom Lectures Classroom lecture happens when someone
imparts information intended to teach others. This often involves teacher
and student interactions which happened inside the classroom; however,
this type may also be comprised of student-to-student communications
especially during oral presentations and recitations.

Commencement Speeches – It is a type of formal speech that is
delivered by an outstanding student during commencement ceremony in
schools. Its purpose is to provide wisdom and advice to inspire the
audience.

1. Students role play situations individually or in groups. For example,
students may play roles of defendant, victim, police officer, and juror to
illustrate different perspectives and issues in criminal justice.
