(1) Remove front and back covers of Scanner unit by loosing four mounting bolts.
(2) Pull out the Scanner unit by loosing two mounting bolts and disconnect each connector. Be
careful not to lose metal parts to the magnetron magnet.
(3) Remove cable retainer (circular), washer and waterproof rubber gasket from the antenna
cable.
(4) Route the interconnecting cable into the enclosure through the cable port of its bottom.
(5) Replace the cable retainer, washer and rubber gasket removed in (3) above, to the
interconnecting cable in the order shown in Figure 3.4.
(6) Secure the cable with the retainer as follows. First secure only two clamps of the cable retainer,
and then fasten the braided wire (with terminal) from the interconnecting cable together with
the remaining bolts on the retainer.
(7) Secure the interconnecting cable with cable clamps on the Scanner chassis.
(8) Connect the interconnecting cable to the Scanner. (Refer to the connection diagram of Figure

Some setup procedures are required after system installation. Before performing the setup
procedures, please check the following items for normal operation:
(1) The onboard power supply powering the radar system has the specified voltage.
(2) No one is in the area around the antenna unit or the mast. The indication “Under the radar
coordination, do not touch the Operation unit.” is marked on the display unit.
Please execute the item in the STARTUP menu to the equipment adjustment in the following
order.

(3) Select MAINTENANCE => STARTUP => TUNE AUTO => VALUE will show the current
setting of the input value by highlighting it.
(4) Roll the trackball up or down to change the value, and obtain the maximum magnitude of
the target in the screen. When a target becomes too strong to find the peak, lower a gain
with “GAIN” knob once again adjust the tune to obtain the maximum magnitude of target.

In order to use the radar normally, it is necessary to connect and set up the following sensors
which output IEC61162.
a gyro-compass or transmitting heading device (THD)
a speed and distance measuring equipment (SDME, ext. Do LOG)
an electronic position fixing system (EPFS, ext. GPS)
an automatic identification system (AIS)
other sensors or networks providing equivalent information acceptable to the IMO.

NOTE:
IMO resolution A.823(19) for ARPA article recommends Speed LOG(SDME) or speed to meet
resolution A824(19) for the use of sea and ground stabilization .
Therefore, when TT function is used, select SDME for COG/SOG.
If you selects EPFS then the reliability of the TT vector worsens when the speed of the own ship is
slow.
4.10.2.3 Select SET/DRIFT input
Select the sensor of SET/DRIFT when [CURRENT] is selected at COG/SOG.
Select [MAINTENANCE] => [I/O] => [SET/DRIFT] => [SDME or MAN] and then press [ENT] key.
SDME: Use sentence format VDR.
MAN: Use SET/DRIFT value manually input. When [MAN] is selected, entry of SET/DRIFT
becomes possible. Make the value highlighted and enter correct SET/DRIFT value by rolling the
track ball up and down.
Note: AIS display does not work when [MAN] is selected.

When the geodetic system in navigator and that in the map used are different, the position may
become different even with the same values of latitude and longitude. In this case, input of
[OFFSET] allows these positions to be matched.
AIS cannot be displayed because radar DATUM differs from DATUM of AIS when you used
position offset.

4.22 Setup of antenna location information.
An environmental factor of the Blind sectors, false image and distance to the target etc. is different
according to the installation environment. Therefore, the operator of radar should operate radar
always taking an environmental factor into consideration. The radar antenna is set up in the place
of a different environment for the ship equipped with two or more radar. Therefore, an
environmental factor that influences each radar is also different.
MDC1800 series displays an antenna position on a screen so that an operator may be conscious
of this different environmental factor.
The antenna position that can be displayed is shown below.

Warning: To prevent electric shock, be sure to turn off the radar system power
before opening the cover of the antenna unit.
For health safety reason, transmission is basically inhibited when antenna is not rotating.
However when transmission is required for any reason without antenna rotation, following
procedure is provided to do it.
1. Turn off the radar and remove the Antenna drive motor fuse according to Fig-5.3.
2. Turn on the radar by pressing [POWER ON/OFF] key with [OFF] key pressed on Operation unit.
Keep pressing OFF key until "NO ERROR DETECT" is displayed on teh screen.
3. After preheating time of 3 minutes, press [STBY/TX] key.
Transmission starts when "NO ERROR DETECT" indication disappears.
(Countdown of time has finished by 10 seconds in this mode)
Periodic inspection and cleaning is essential to keep the radar system in the good working order
for the life of the radar.

with soft cloth soaked in water or soap detergent. Also make sure no cracks or coating material is
on the front radiation part of antenna unit.
(2) Wipe the radar screen with cloth soaked in static electricity inhibitor if dirty. Avoid using a dry
cloth since it will generate static electricity resulting in the accumulation of dust.
(1) Remove the cover at the forward side of the antenna unit by unscrewing the mounting screw.
The antenna drive motor is located inside the lower side of the housing.
(2) Remove the old motor brush using the slotted screwdriver. (Refer to Figure 7.2).
(3) Fit the screw to the slot and rotate slowly to counter clockwise. Both of the brushes should be
changed simultaneously.
