ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY
Annamalai University, one of the largest unitary, teaching, and residential
Universities in Southern Asia, was established and incorporated in the year 1929 as
per the Annamalai University Act 1928 (Tamil Nadu Act 1 of 1929). Now, the
Annamalai University Act, 1928 has been repealed and replaced by the Annamalai
University Act 2013 (Tamil Nadu Act 20 of 2013). Hon’ble the Governor of Tamil
Nadu is the Chancellor of the University. The University is awarded
with ‘A’ Grade by NAAC in December 2014.

The University is located at Annamalainagar, adjacent to Chidambaram town,


the abode of Lord Nataraja, the Cosmic Dancer. The University, since its inception,
has played a pivotal role in providing access to higher education to thousands of
youth from economically and socially disadvantaged classes. In this respect, the
University service rendered by the nation is tremendous. In past 90 years, the
University has grown into a premier institution of higher learning and research. The
sprawling and scenic campus, spread over an extensive area of about 800 acres has
the Faculties of Arts, Science, Indian Languages, Engineering and Technology,
Education, Fine Arts, Agriculture, Medicine, Dentistry and Marine Sciences.

All the ten faculties enjoy reputation across the globe for their distinguished
record of effective teaching at the higher level, continuing research and developing
human resources. Numerous infrastructure facilities have been created to cater to
all the students enrolled in the various on-campus programmes. New spacious
laboratory facilities with modern equipment have been created to satiate the needs
of the learners and researchers. Video conferencing, Edusat, campus wide network
with 1750 access points, high tech class rooms are some of the facilities added.

The University Library, named after the eminent scholar, statesman and
former Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sir C.P. Ramaswami Aiyer, serves as knowledge hub for
the students and the staff. Quite a good number of journals can be accessed
through the Infonet facility. Science Direct is subscribed through which
340 journals can be accessed.

The sports pavilion of the University, with an area of over 6.5 acres, houses
facilities for sports and games. Tennis court complex, basketball complex, volleyball
complex, athletic standard track, cricket field & nets, football field, hockey field and
a wooden floored indoor stadium are a few worth mentioning.

1. FACULTY OF MEDICINE
The Faculty of Medicine has two colleges under its ambit. They are the Rajah
Muthiah Medical College and the Rani Meyyammai College of Nursing.
The Rajah Muthiah Medical College has a 1150 bed tertiary level collegiate
hospital with all specialities, super-specialities supported by modern 24-hours
laboratory and Radiological Imaging Service equipped with Doppler, Ultrasound,
Mammography, Digital X-ray, C-arm, CT Scan and the MRI. The Medical Council of
India has accorded permanent recognition for annual intake of 150 students for the
MBBS programme.
Rajah Muthiah Institute of Health Sciences was established in the year 1980
with the inception of the Dental College. Thereafter, in the second phase of
development, the Rajah Muthiah Medical College was established in the year 1985.
The Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital serve the needs of the
surrounding villages, by providing medical treatment with skilled doctors in
different fields, paramedical staff and a well equipped hospital. Apart from ensuring
curative and rehabilitative services through the teaching hospital of the college,
community services on the preventive and promotive sides are being meaningfully
organised, keeping in view the health needs of the rural as well as the urban
sectors of the community.

RAJAH MUTHIAH MEDICAL COLLEGE HOSPITAL


The Academic tempo in the Rajah Muthiah Medical College and Hospital is
maintained high by the activities of the scientific body – ‘Academy of Medical
Sciences’. Under the auspices of the Academy, regular monthly meetings are held
wherein research papers and hospital cases are presented and discussed. Seminars
and Symposia are held annually on various Medical topics in different fields.
Eminent scientists are invited by the Academy to deliver guest lectures on topics of
current importance. The University has been hosting several National/International
Medical Conferences. The teachers in the Faculty are encouraged to present

papers/participate in several National/ International


Seminars/Conferences/Symposia.

RAJAH MUTHIAH INSTITUTE OF HEALTH SCIENCES


The Medical Education Unit functioning with the Dean as the Chairman,
organizes programmes connected with Medical Education such as Orientation
Programmes, Basic & Advanced Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Workshops for
CRRIs & PGs, Faculty Development Programmes, Clinico Pathological Conferences and
Special Lectures etc.,
The imposing structures of Rajah Muthiah Medical College has the distinction
of having been declared open by His Excellency Shri R. Venkataraman, President of
India, on 28.04.1988.
A special feature of Rajah Muthiah Medical College is that it is one of the very
few Medical Colleges in India directly run by Universities. As a University Medical
College with residential system, there are ample opportunities for healthy
interaction and learning from the multi-disciplinary facilities available in the
campus of the Annamalai University.
The Rajah Muthiah Medical College is offering Post Graduate degree
programmes in 19 different specialities with effect from the academic year 1997-98,
all of which are recognised by the Medical Council of India.
A separate Medical College Library functions in the faculty since 1985-86.
Initially the library was functioning in Para Clinical Block situated in RMMCH
Campus. Later to provide additional space for the Library as prescribed by the
Medical Council of India, during the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the Annamalai
University i.e. during 2004-05 a new state of the art centrally air conditioned
building with 2640 sq.m. floor area was constructed and the library was shifted to
the new building. 24124 Books, 6421 Back Volumes and 2840 Online
Journals are available in the Central Medical Library.
The Library is kept open from 09.00 a.m. to 10.00 p.m. on all working days
and all holidays. During examinations the Library is open upto 12.00 midnight.

2. POST GRADUATE PROGRAMMES OFFERED


2.1. Duration of the Programme
The duration of Post-Graduate degree programme is Three years.
However, those who hold a relevant and recognised diploma in relevant field are
eligible for a 1 year exemption in the degree programme.

3. MODE OF SELECTION
Candidates who are interested in joining these courses at Rajah Muthiah
Medical College, Annamalai University, for the academic year 2020-2021 must have
secured the minimum qualification score in National Eligibility cum Entrance
Test (NEET) held on 5th January, 2020 conducted by the National Board of
Examination New Delhi. The candidates should apply and also appear for the
counselling conducted by the Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical
Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Kilpauk, Chennai, for which the dates will
be announced by the Selection Committee.
4. SECURITY AMOUNT
Non-service candidates shall execute a bond with two sureties for a sum of
` 40,00,000/- (Rupees Forty Lakh only) for Post Graduate Degree Programmes and
` 20,00,000/- (Rupees Twenty Lakh only) for Post Graduate Diploma Programmes of
the year 2020-2021 session with an undertaking, that they shall serve Annamalai
University for a period of not less than two years, if required. During the above bond
period, they will be paid the salary on consolidated basis on par with that of fresh
recruits in force at the time of completion of Post Graduate Degree/Diploma. Three
sureties should be provided, one of which should be from a permanent government/
public servant in the same or higher rank than the candidate and other one surety
should be from the spouse/parent of the candidate. PAN numbers of the sureties
should be furnished. The prescribed form of bond will be made available by the
Annamalai University at the time of admission. The bond will become infructuous on
serving the RMMCH for a minimum period of two years.
5. DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED AT THE TIME OF ADMISSION
The following documents should be enclosed with each application.
Please note only attested copy need to be attached.
1. Allotment Order.
2. Date of Birth Certificate (H.Sc. Certificate / School Leaving Certificate).
3. Community Certificate (if applicable).
4. Consolidated statement of MBBS Marks from I to III MBBS.
5. CRRI Completion Certificate.
6. MBBS Degree / Provisional Pass Certificate issued by the University.
7. Permanent Medical Council Registration Certificate.
8. Course Certificate from the Head of the Parent Institution for MBBS
programme.
9. Copy of the orders of MCI recognition of the College for MBBS, in case of
candidates who passed MBBS from Colleges in other states.
10. 3 Numbers of Passport size photographs (background – white/blue).
11. Bonds in the prescribed format as stipulated under para 4 (Non-service
candidates).
12. The Candidate and his/her parent should execute a Notary Affidavit in the
prescribed format at the time of admission regarding the fee structure and
payment of course fee.
All originals are to be produced only at the time of admission.

6. STIPEND
The candidates admitted to various Post Graduate Degree Programmes during
the academic year 2020-2021 will be paid stipend (non-service candidates) as
detailed below:

7. ADMISSION TO HOSTEL
Hostel accommodation is compulsory for entire duration of the
programme. Admission to the hostels will be provided on payment of ` 80,000/-
(Rupees Eighty Thousand) exclusive of ` 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand)
refundable deposit, towards boarding and lodging for one academic year.

The KRM Men’s Hostel is very closer/nearer/adjacent to the Rajah Muthiah
Medical College complex and is located just across the road, hardly 100 metres away.
KRMH is a complete hostel with all in-built facilities like indoor games room,
recreation rooms, reading room, gymnasium, etc., It also encloses a volley ball and a
basketball court inside. The hostel mess, like all other mess in the University, is
provided with a mineral water plant operating on reverse osmosis system to provide
safe and clean drinking water to all the students. Besides, the hostels also have
facility for providing cable/dish connection for those who are interested. Further,
arrangement is afoot to provide Wi-Fi connection to the hostel.

8. GENERAL NOTE TO APPLICANTS/SELECTED CANDIDATES OF ALL PROGRAMMES


1. The candidates are informed that ragging in any form is totally banned/
prohibited and anyone found guilty of ragging and/or abetting ragging is liable
to be punished appropriately. Attention of the candidates is invited to the
Notification of the Regulations 2009 issued by the Medical Council of India in
this regard. The students are required to give an undertaking at the time of
admission.

2. In case of students who have joined the Programme of study but discontinued
the programme on subsequent reallotment by the Selection Committee,
Directorate of Medical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, Kilpauk, Chennai
to another College, the amount remitted by the candidate will be refunded after
deducting the service charges of ` 10,000/- (Ten thousand only).

3. In the case of students who discontinue the programme after attending


classes, the fees paid by them for the year will not be returned. If the seats
vacated by them are filled up subsequently in the same academic year, they
will be exempted from paying the fees for the remaining period of their study
but, they would have to pay the Bond Breakage amount to the University.
4. For the above category of students mentioned in 3, if the seats vacated them
are not filled up in the same academic year, they have to pay the full fee for
the remaining period of their study, in addition to the Bond Breakage amount
to the University.
5. In the case of students who discontinue the programme of study in the middle
of the programme in the subsequent years, the fee for the remaining period of
the study have to be paid them in addition to the Bond Breakage amount to
the University.

All the discontinuing students, in the 1st year have to deposit the entire fees
for the remaining year of the programme of study with the University, and the
money deposited will be returned to them only after filling up of the seats
vacated by them.
6. i. Tuition fees for each academic year should be paid well before the due date,
failing which a fine as prescribed by the University will be charged.
The candidate shall not be permitted to appear for the University
examination without clearing the tuition fees arrears.
ii. Tuition fees for the entire programme together with arrears, if any, shall be
payable by the student before Transfer Certificate is issued.
7. Caution deposit shall be refunded after adjustment towards any dues from the
student.

8. With regard to any dispute arising in relation to admission, examinations,


remittance of fees, etc., the place of jurisdiction for the purpose of filing a suit
or preferring a complaint or taking any legal proceedings against the
Annamalai University, will be Chidambaram Town only.
9. No certificate will be issued, unless the candidate has cleared all the arrears of
fees etc., due to the University.
10. All the candidates selected for the admission for the Annamalai University has
to execute a bond as detailed in section 4 (page no. 5) of this prospectus in the
format prescribed by the University before admission to Course compulsorily.

9. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR STUDENTS OF ALL PROGRAMMES
The following code of conduct shall be observed by the students who are admitted.
1) The students should conduct themselves in an exemplary manner so as to be
a model for other students.
2) All students will have to strictly adhere to the rules and regulations of the
University.
3) If any student is involved in ragging or any other anti social activities, he/she
will be expelled and criminal proceedings may be launched against him/her.
4) The students should be present during all working days and sincerely devote
themselves to studies.
5) The students should attend the classes regularly and punctually.
A minimum attendance of 80% is compulsory to appear for the University
Examinations.
6) The campus is “Tobacco Free” and “Liquor Free”. Deviants will face dismissal
from the programme.
7) Using mobile phones inside the faculty premises is strictly prohibited.
