UNIT-I
1. Leather products: Agra makes two kinds of leather belts. Belt A
is a high quality belt and Belt B is of lower quality. The respective
profits are Rs. 4 and Rs. 3 per belt. Each belt of type A requires twice
as much time as the belt of type B and if all belts are of type B,
the company could make 1200 per day. The supply of leather is
sufficient for only 900 belts per day (both A and B combined).
Belt A requires a fancy buckle and only 500 per day available.
Where as for type belt B 700 buckles per day are available.
Assuming that the supply of leather available per day is 10%
defective and that only good leather can be used in manufacturing
of the belts, formulate the problem as LPP and obtain the optimal
solution using graphical method 12

2. a) Write the dual of the following LP problem:
Max=
Z 4 x1 + 2 x2
S/to:
− x1 − x2 ≤ −3
− x1 + x2 ≤ −2 3
x1 , x2 ≥ 0
b) Solve the following problem by Simplex method:
Min Z = 2 x1 − 3 x2 + 6 x3
S/ to:
3 x1 − 4 x2 − 6 x3 ≤ 2,
2 x1 + x2 + 2 x3 ≥ 11,
9
x1 + 3 x2 − 2 x3 ≤ 5,
x1 , x2 , x3 ≥ 0
UNIT-II
3. a) What is meant by Degeneracy? Discuss 3
b) A manufacturing company has distribution centres located
at X,Y and Z. These centres have in stock 40, 30 and 40 units
of the product. The demand for the product at the retailing units
are as follows:
Retail Unit A B C D E
Demand 25 15 20 30 20
The transportation costs in rupees between distribution centers
and retail outlets are given below:
Distribution Retail outlet

A B C D E
X 55 30 40 50 40
Y 35 30 100 45 60
Z 40 60 95 35 30
Due to collapse of a bridge recently, shipping of the product
from Y to D is not possible. Determine the optimal shipping
schedule and cost 9

UNIT-III
5. a) Explain the Kendall’s notation for describing the queuing
models 3
b) A self service store employs one cashier at its counter. Nine
customers arrive on an average every 5 minutes while the
cashier can serve 10 customers in 5 minutes. Assuming
Poisson distribution for arrival rate and exponential distribution
for service rate.
Find:
(i) Average number of customers in the system
(ii) Average number of customers in the queue
(iii) Average time a customer spends in the system
(iv) Average time a customer waits before being served
(v) Probability that the queue is empty 9
OR
6. a) State the assumptions that are usually made in sequencing
problems 3
