3. DEFINITION O F PROCESS
3.1 Quality Requirements
• The works shall be performed as mentioned in this procedure and the quality assurance
requirements shall be consistent with the relevant sections of Quality System Procedure
Manual of the contractor as well with the Project Quality Plan.
• Work shall not proceed without formal approval by the Engineer.
3.2 Application
3.2.1 Surface Preparation
• The concrete substrate must be dry, sound, clean, dry and free from dust, oil, grease and
laitance and other contaminants.
• The surface to which the Master Top 1205 is to be applied must be flat, Surface irregularities
must be ground down or filled out with suitable repair materials.
• A light etches giving the profile of medium grit, Sandpaper is the ideal surface for the
application of Master top 1205, this can be achieved by light grit blasting or surface grinding.
• After all preparation has been completed, ensure dust is removed from the surface.
This is best achieved using an industrial vacuum.
• Where cracks occur in substrates and prior to the laying of epoxy the cracks shall rout out
, grind level as necessary, and fill flush with approved material.
3.2.2 Application
• Add the entire contents of the reactor into the base container and mix the two components
for 2 minutes using a slow speed drill until all striations have disappeared and a uniform
colour is obtained.
• Apply the first coat of Master Top 1205 using short roller or brush.
• The coat should be applied evenly over the surface to ensure a regular film thickness of
200-micron DFT.
• The coating should then be spiked to remove any entrapment of air in the coating.
• Apply the 2nd coat in the same manner as mentioned for the first coat application.
• The 2nd coat may consume more material than the base coat to achieve a fully sealed
surface. The 2nd coat must be applied within the maximum over coating time period
36 hours.
