Self-Reflection:
• What have you learned from the activity?
What I have learned in this activity is even if it is an oil it is possible that it will turn
out to be in a capsule that it can also treat internally because most of oils like castor oil
can only be used externally, in this activity another information gained.
Based on the discussion, what specific topic will surely be useful on your future chosen
career.
The specific topic that will be surely useful is the part of the oil is being put inside
the capsule for the reason that it is the time when the pharmacist is about to produce a
drug that comes from an oil that will be benefited to a lot of people.
• How will this benefit you as future pharmacist?
This will benefit me to gain more knowledge every preparations that I can apply in
the intern year and more importantly if I decided to pursue the manufacturing field.
Every preparations makes me more curious how was drug was made and how it will
affect it to the body once it is taken.

ASSIGNMENT
PREPARATION NO. 4
1. What are the sources of gelatin in manufacturing of capsules?
Gelatin capsules is made of natural food source. Before, these capsules are made
from beef bones and purified water but nowadays with the help of technological
advancements, one can also purchase vegetarian gelatin capsules. Our two-piece hard-
shell gelatin capsules (powder filled) are typically made of a combination of beef
(bovine) and pork (porcine) gelatins. By contrast, our softgel (liquid filled) gelatin
capsules are typically derived solely from beef gelatin, not pork.
2. Give a short description of castor oil.
Castor oil is a vegetable oil that is used for a wide range of cosmetic and medical
purposes. It is said to provide health benefits for the face and skin.
3. Other uses of castor oil in complementary medicine
Castor oil is also a natural moisturizer, so it may help soothe the inflamed and
irritated skin typical in those with acne. It helps fight inflammation, reduce bacteria and
soothe irritated skin, all of which can be helpful for those looking for a natural acne
remedy.
