WRC-107 Lifting Lug Calculation Guide

This document outlines the 14 step procedure for performing WRC-107 calculations for lifting lugs on horizontal vessels using PVElite and COADE CALC software. The steps include importing vessel data from PVElite, selecting the WRC-107/FEA analysis type in COADE CALC, inputting lifting lug geometry and vessel parameters, running the analysis, and iterating the geometry as needed until the analysis passes.

PROCEDURE OF WRC-107 CALCULATIONS FOR LIFTING LUGS

(Horizontal vessels)

Sketch

Step 1 Note values from output file of PVElite, as shown below.

Import data from PV elite

Step 2 Open PVElite Input file

Step 3 In PV Elite, Click this button -->

(To start design of lifting lug)

Step 4 A new window "COADE CALC" will open, Go to Step 4

As Shown Below:

Step 5 Go to 'Analysis'→'Choose Analysis type '→'WRC 107 / FEA'

As shown below in sketch

Step 6 A new window will open. Click " +" new Item button

Step 7 Give Description of item, select attachment type as "Rectangular" & select "solid" in
Hollow or Solid box

Step 8 Also give dimensions of rectangular attachment by clicking ">>" button

window. If there is any pad attached also give its dimension.

Step 9 In Vessel provide data for Vessel (from data sheet or Pv elite calculations) on which lifting lug is attached.

Step 10 A Provide values in input cells in table 1 & take value of weight from step 1

Input Cell

Output Cells

Weight of Empty Vessel W = 5000 N

Impact Factor (generally 1.5) I = 1.5
Design Lifting Load (Total) WxI F = 7500 N
No. of Lifting Lugs n = 2
Table 1
Thickness of lifting lug T = 10 mm
Length of lifting lug from centre of hole to bottom. d = 55 mm
Thickness of pad Tp = 10 mm
Half of the circumferential angle between Lugs. ө = 30 deg.

Step 10 B In Loads provide values from Step10A.

Step 11 Save your file at required location.

Step 12 Analyze

Step 13 Read at end of Report (as below)

Step 14 If the results are " Fail", go to Step 8 & try with different geometrical dimensions.
Unless you get "Passed" message
