Division
In division, we use the following terms :

1. Dividend : The number to be divided

2. Divisor : The number by which we divide the dividend.

3. Quotient : The number that we get after the division.

4. Remainder : The number which is left undivided.

Properties of Division
1. In division : Dividend = quotient x divisor + remainder
We use this to basically check the division.

2. When a number, except 0, is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.

Eg. 12 ÷ 12 = 1, 128 ÷ 128 = 1

3. When a number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.

Eg. 46 ÷ 1 = 46, 249 ÷ 1 = 249

4. When 0 is divided by a number except 0, the quotient is 0.

Eg. 0 ÷ 19 = 0, 0 ÷ 777 = 0
Properties of Division
5. A number cannot be divided by 0.
6. When a number is divided by 10, the quotient is obtained by writing the
dividend without the ones digit. The ones digit is the remainder.
Eg. 5,783 ÷ 10 gives quotient = 578, remainder = 3
7. When a number is divided by 100, the quotient is obtained by writing
the dividend without the tens and ones digit. The remainder is the
number formed by tens and ones digit of the dividend.
Eg. 28,735 ÷ 100 gives quotient = 287, remainder = 35
8. When a number is divided by 1000, the quotient is obtained by writing
the dividend without hundreds, tens and ones digit. The remainder is
formed by the dropped digits.
Eg. 8,30,496 ÷ 1000 gives quotient = 830, remainder = 496

3. 45,279 ÷ 10 Q = 4,527 R=9

4. 35,962 ÷ 100 Q = 359 R = 62

7. 45,985 ÷ 1,000 Q = 45 R = 985

10. 7,85,039 ÷ 10 Q = 78,503 R=9

11. 873 ÷ 100 Q=8 R = 73

12. 1,875 ÷ 1000 Q=1 R = 875

C. Find the dividend :
5. Quotient = 4,192 , remainder = 42, divisor = 100
Ans C5. Dividend = 4,192 x 100 + 42
= 4,19,200 + 42
= 4,19,242
7. Quotient = 26 , remainder = 603 , divisor = 1000
Ans C7. Dividend = 26 x 1000 + 603
= 26,000 + 603
= 26,603
9. Quotient = 5,406 , remainder = 6, divisor = 100
Ans C9. Dividend = 5,406 x 100 + 6
= 5,40,600 + 6
= 5,40,606
