Binomial Distribution Cheat Sheet

The binomial theorem provides a formula to calculate the probability of a certain number of successes in a set number of trials when the probability of success is fixed for each trial. The formula is the combination of n over k multiplied by the probability of success p to the power of k multiplied by the probability of failure 1-p to the power of n-k. An example calculates the probability of winning 2 games out of 5 when the chance of winning each game is 25%.

Binomial Theorem www.FairlyNerdy.

com
Use the Binomial Equation to find the probability of a certain number of successes
after a number of events
Binomial Equation

𝑛
where 𝑘 is the combination formula, n is the total number of events, k is the
number of successes, and p is the probability of a success for a single event

Example - You are playing a game, and the odds of winning are 25%. What are the
odds of winning 2 times in 5 games?
Here, n = 5, p = .25, k = 2

𝑛
The value can also be calculated from Pascal's triangle, in the location
𝑘
corresponding to 5 events, 2 successes (6th row, 3rd column)
