PREPARATION OF LABOR ROOM

Precaution for conduction of normal labor :

[A] Preparation of women by to ways :

(1)Physically

(2)Psychologically

[B] Preparation of labor room or articles :

 Physical Preparation

(a) Wash out the bladder with soap and water bcz presence of stool which inhibit

the descend of presenting part.

(b) Vulva preparation : Shaving of perineal area, Clean vulva with antiseptic solution

like dettol & savlon. Mother should wear clean gown.

(c)General care : Mother is advises to bath and wear clean cloths . Nails should be cut shot.

Should be Remove the nail police and the lipstics and combing of hair should be done.

 Psychological preparation

(a) Establish a therapeutic relationship & make the patient comfort feeling.

(b)Nurse should use therapeutic communication skills.

(c)Clearify of the doubts of the patient and their relatives.


(d)Provide psychological support to reduce anxiety in the pt. which

(e) provide confidence to the pt.and their family members.

Preparation of labor room

During labor high level of cleaning is needed, so following preparation should be done –

Preparation of delivery room : (1) Warm well ventilated and well lighted

(2) Sterile delivery kit

(3)Keeping obstetrical and emergency drugs tray

(4) Setting up all the articles for delivery and keeping all

the emergency equipment ready

Articles Preparation

(1)Mayo scissors to cut the umbilical cord

(2)Surgical blade

(3)Kelly forceps to clamp cord from the baby site & Other clamp to maternal site.

(4)Gauze pieces

(5)Perineal pad

(6)Sterile gloves and towel

(7)Several sterile bulb

(8)Mayo table where all instruments are kept ready .
