Level II Section A Microbiology

Concerning the scenario presented in the research study, individuals who were infected
with the Novel Coronavirus presented symptoms of respiratory infections ranging from
fevers, difficulty breathing, sore throat, loss of taste, and mild coughs. These may differ
from adult and pediatric patients as the study demonstrated that children usually
presented milder symptoms of the disease. These symptoms typically appear within 2-
14 days of exposure to the virus and are transmitted via contact and droplet
transmission.

Regarding the prevention and control of the infection, it is recommended for health
professionals to partake in employing basic hygiene principles known to reduce the risk
of transmission of acute respiratory infections via standard and transmission-based
precautions. Standard precautions include hand hygiene, use of personal protective
equipment (PPE); safe use and disposal of sharps; routine environment cleaning;
reprocessing of reusable medical equipment and instruments; appropriate respiratory
hygiene, and coughing etiquette; employing aseptic techniques; waste management,
and also the appropriate handling of linen. Contact precautions include using
appropriate PPE, which involves using gloves, aprons or gowns, eyewear, face shields,
and masks. Regarding droplet precautions, a surgical mask should be utilized, which
includes the use of surgical masks for medical staff, nursing staff, and coughing patients
and maintaining a distance of more than one meter when possible.

Airborne precautions include using P2 or N95 respirators for healthcare workers, using
surgical masks for coughing patients, and the use of negative pressure rooms,
whenever possible. Further precautions include dedicating and allocating equipment,
single rooms, and implementing cohorting of patients. It is also vital to impose enhanced
cleaning and disinfecting of the patient environment, and restricted transfer of patients
within and between facilities. Frequent and routine sanitization of high-touch surfaces
and handwashing practices should also be exercised since they are the successful and
cost-effective measures for limiting disease spread. It should be done, especially after
direct contact with ill people or their environment. Individuals with acute respiratory

infection symptoms should practice cough etiquette by maintaining social distancing as

covering coughs and sneezes with disposable tissues or coughing or sneezing into their
elbow. When possible, close contact with people suffering from acute respiratory
infections should be avoided.

For many of us, the COVID-19 crisis has halted everyday life, and as we continue to
remain in our homes, our medical professionals, doctor, nurses, and other frontline
personnel are doing their best in treating the infected and keeping us safe. As some
degree of public health measures are lifted in the country, COVID-19 transmission
cases are inevitable. Therefore, it is crucial to implement a strategic approach that
maintains protective measures, minimize societal disruption, and reduce the burden on
healthcare resources. With regards to the progressing coronavirus travel restrictions in
the country's metropolitan regions, the authorities have, as of late, set forth systems
regarding the gradual resumption of commercial services. These programs would help
alleviate the significant financial and economic burden of the citizens currently dwelling
within these territories.

It is also within my recommendation that a portion of the residents within these areas,
particularly those with clinical conditions or emergency cases, to be given passes or
leave licenses with the underlying condition that they return after finishing their clinical
arrangements. The relevant authorities should also work towards providing the
residents with food and other necessities. However, our communities' main problem is
that they are mostly concerned with the state of their finances because of the non-
payment of their salaries, especially those with "No Work No Pay" contracts. It implies
they do not currently have the means to buy their food and necessities, since they
generally depend on the government's food alleviation bundles.

As to proposed techniques, I also recommend introducing field clinics and quarantine

facilities within these regions' immediate vicinity. The relief program should start with an
epidemiological examination to be led by the Department of Health's medical teams and
will then be followed by the transport of those suspected of infection by the Armed
Forces and other security personnel. Although the procurement of supplies is
necessary, these practices serve as possible and favorable environments for the

Coronavirus because of the noticeable congestion and obtrusive disregard in adhering

to the precautionary health measures with respect to social distancing. My sympathies
go out to those hit hard by the lockdown, and I recognize that they need to maintain
whatever is required in order for

them to buy the essential products they need to survive. However, it is also imperative
to recall that containing the spread of the Coronavirus remains our government's
primary concern, and likewise, the inhabitants of these regions ought to comprehend
the dangers of buying unregistered products in these business sectors. I hope the
relevant authorities would investigate more in this matter and find a way to bring goods
to the residents of theses metropolitan areas so that they no longer have to risk their
lives to buy the food they need.

Although the COVID-19 pandemic continues to put a significant strain on our healthcare
and public services, the charitable acts of many individuals went a long way in helping
the most needy sectors of our society. This only proves to show that despite the
challenges we face, every single one of us is capable of kindness and generosity. As
Mother Teresa once said, if you cannot feed a hundred people, then feed one. Likewise,
we must exercise the same charitable acts to the poorest and most vulnerable members
of our society who have been especially hit hard by this pandemic. Our actions may
seem meager in the greater expanse of things, it is with great confidence that I assure
everyone that by this small act of kindness, you have already brought about the most
significant change in that person's life.

Even decades before the coronavirus pandemic, the British Prime Minister Winston
Churchill once said, "If you're going through hell, keep going." This is especially relevant
during this crisis, as many of our fellowmen continue to lose their jobs and are left to
fend for themselves during this time of great uncertainty. Regardless, we must always
see hope as this constantly renewable option. Should you run out of it at the end of the
day, we always get to start over in the morning. Although this crisis has indeed pushed
most of us to our breaking points, we must always shift our perspective and see this
crisis as an opportunity for growth, because often, when we think we're at the end of
something, it's always going to be the beginning of something else.
