Distortion: Idistortion Is Also Commonly Referred To As "Curvilinear"

Distortion is a rotationally symmetric image error where the scale of the image is locally modified towards the margins, disturbing measuring applications. It is a deviation from rectilinear projection where straight lines in a scene remain straight in an image, instead curving due to an optical aberration known as distortion. Distortion increases from the center of images outwards.

DISTORTION

Distortion is a rotationally symmetric image error which increase from the centre of the
images towards the image margin. In the course of this there is a local modification of
the image scale within the image plane, which can be very disturbing for measuring
applications.

In geometric optics, distortion is a deviation from rectilinear projection; a projection in

which straight lines in a scene remain straight in an image. It is a form of optical
aberration.

IDistortion is also commonly referred to as “curvilinear”.
