A line is an identifiable path
created by a point moving in
space. It is one-dimensional and
can vary in width, direction, and
length. Lines often define the
edges of a form. Lines can be
horizontal, vertical, or diagonal,
straight or curved, thick or thin.

Organic lines are the types

of lines found in nature. They are
irregular, curved, and often fluid.
They convey a sense of
gracefulness, dynamism, and
spontaneity.

Inorganic line: a mark with length

and direction that is straight and
forms a geometric shape. So
basically it means anything that is
manmade like a house
is inorganic, and anything in
nature or not manmade like a leaf
or animal is inorganic.

Activity 1: Mountains in Luzon

Luzon is the largest Island and is located at the

northernmost part of the Philippines. This island is
very mountainous. Can you think of some of the
mountains found in the Luzon?
Some of the famous mountains are Mount Pulag
(Benguet, Ifugao, and Nueva Vizcaya), Mount
Banahaw (Laguna and Quezon), and Mount Pinatubo
(Pampanga, Tarlac, and Zambales). Many of the
cultural tribes in Luzon inhabit these mountains.
There are the Ifugaos, bontocs, Kankanaeys, Kalinga,
and Aetas.
These tribes are skilled and have built most of their
traditions around the mountainous areas of Luzon.
The Banaue Rice Terraces is one of the famous
landmarks in Luzon. It is crafted by te Ifugaos for
their farming and for preventing the mountain from
erosion. It is regarded as the “Eight Wonder of the
World”

Material: Pencil, crayons, Eraser (if necessary)

Procedure: Draw of the many mountains of Luzon. Use organic lines in your work. To make
your organic lines authentic, you may make a research on what the mountain you chose actually
looks like.

Activity 2: House in Batanes

Batanes is the northernmost province of the

Philippines. It is also regarded as the smallest
province both in terms of population and land
area. People from Batanes are called Ivatan and
their culture is based on their weather, which is
typhoon-frequent type of weather. Ivatans live in
a house called rakuh, built withstand strong
winds and rainfall.
Rakuh is made of limestone and coral and its
roof is made of cagon grass. This is influenced
by the Spaniards during their colonization of the
Philippines. The rakuh is one of the reasons why
tourists vist the province.
Rakuh is the traditional house in Batanes that
protects them from the harsh weather of the
province.

Materials: Pencil, Eraser

Procedure: Using inorganic lines, draw your version of rakuh. Include details using geometric
lines and shapes to enhance your drawing.

Gaddang people live in the northern part of the

Luzon Island specifically the Cagayan Valley.
They live in the forested area of the valley and

Colors is another important

element of art that is made
whenever light strikes on an
object and is reflected back to
one’s eye. You cannot

colors without light.
Colors give life to everything.
Red, yellow, and blue are the
primary colors of light—they can
be combined in different
proportions to make all other colors
They are called primary
because these colors can
only be obtained by
using natural pigments.
They cannot be created
by mixing two other
colors. Also, all the
colors from the color
wheel

The Secondary Colors are green,

orange and purple, which are
created by mixing two primary
colors. Another six Tertiary Colors
are created by mixing primary and
secondary colors.

[ CITATION Tum \l 1033 ]11

Can you figure out which
of the primary colors
were mixed together to
get these secondary
colors? Try to write the
equation near each
secondary hue.

The intensity of the secondary color depends on the proportion in which you mix the
two primary colors. For instance, if you mix more yellow than red, you will get a lighter
shade of orange (yellowish orange), while if you mix more red than yellow, you will have a
darker intensity of orange (red orange).

Activity 1: Hala Bira Crayon Resist!

The Ati are a Negrito ethnic group in the Visayas, the central portion of the Philippine

archipelago. Their small numbers are principally concentrated in the islands
of Boracay, Panay and Negros. They are genetically related to other Negrito ethnic groups in
the Philippines such as the Aeta of Luzon, the Batak of Palawan, the Agta of the Sierra
Madres, and the Mamanwa of Mindanao
The Negritos were the aboriginal (or first) inhabitants of the Philippine archipelago. They
most probably arrived from Borneo 20,000 to 30,000 years ago, through what is thought to be
an isthmus (remnants of which today comprise the island of Palawan) that in the prehistoric
epoch connected the archipelago to Borneo via a land bridge.
[ CITATION Tum \l 1033 ]12
According to some oral traditions, they also predate the Bisaya, who now inhabit most of
the Visayas.
Legends, such as those involving the Ten Bornean Datus and the Binirayan Festival, tell tales
Materials: Crayons, paper, paintbrush, black tempera paint (washed down)
Procedure:
1. Choose a light-colored and draw an Ati headdress.
2. Make sure to press the crayon hard so it shows up under the paint
3. After drawing, lightly brush black paint over the picture.
4. The areas with crayons will resist the black paint.
5. Let it dry.

Activity 2: Ati Tribe Color Wheel
During the Ati-atihan Festival, people decorate the streets with colorful flowers which add up to
the vibrance of the festivity.
Materials: Paper plate, eraser, paintbrush, crayons or poster paint, pencil, permanent marker

[ CITATION Tum \l 1033 ]14

Procedure:
1. Draw a flower big enough to cover the entire paper plate. Make sure that there are
enough petals on your flower to represent primary and secondary colors in the color
wheel.
2. Paint the petals accordingly. Keep in the mind the positioning of primary and secondary
colors in your flower.
3. Let it dry.
4. With a permanent marker, mark the outline of the flower.
5. Paint the negative space (if there is any) with any color you wish to make your color
wheel flower pop up.
6. Display your work in your classroom.

Activity 3: Flower Festival Mosaic

Panagbenga Festival is a month-long annual flower occasion occurring in Baguio City. The
term is of Kankanaey origin, meaning "season of blooming" The festival, held in February, was
created as a tribute to the city's flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990
Luzon earthquake. The festival includes floats that are covered mostly with flowers not unlike
those used in Pasadena's Rose Parade. The festival also includes street dancing, presented by
dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes, that is inspired by the Bendian, an Ibaloi dance of
celebration that came from the Cordilleras.
Materials: differently colored Chinse papers, glue, oslo sheet, pencil scissors

Procedure:
Using your pencil, lightly sketch a float for the Flower Festival. Cut or tear the colored papers
into bits to create a dramatic flare on your flower festival float. Since you have the primary
colored sheets, overlap some of these papers to create the secondary colors.
