Concepts in The Care of at Risk and Sick Adult Clients

Global health issues such as cancer, obesity, hypertension, and diabetes are leading causes of death worldwide and in the Philippines specifically. Chronic illnesses refer to conditions like heart disease, respiratory disease, stroke, Alzheimer's, cancer, obesity, and kidney failure that affect well-being over many years through continuous or progressive symptoms. Providing culturally competent care is important, as culture influences patient behaviors, attitudes, and preferences around issues like family involvement, personal space, and diet. Perioperative nursing focuses on the pre-op, intra-op, and post-op periods through communication, teamwork, and comprehensive patient assessment to ensure good surgical outcomes.
