EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Apollo Fashions Company is a part of Apollo group and comes under Apollo
International limited. Today Apollo Fashions Company is one of the fore standing
players among the fashion products Exporters. Apollo Fashions Company is about 25
years old company and has grown significantly.

It has been awarded as “Excellent Performance award” by Council of leather exports


in 2012, The Quality Award by All saints in 2016 and The Northern Regional Export
Award by Council of leather exports in 2018.

Over the years Apollo Fashions Company has created an unblemished reputation by
establishing unrivaled Quality, Durability in all its products. These are central tenets
of company’s achievement to exceed customer’s expectations.

Today, Apollo's customers are world-renowned brands such as Bata, Euro Shoe
Group, Walk London, Hush Puppies, Hudson, and many other international brands.
All these brands have full faith in the quality of Apollo and for this reason they are
Associated from Apollo.

This report contains six chapters:

CHAPTER 1

INDUSTRY PROFILE
1.1 Leather Apparel Export Industry in India

Leather is one of the foremost widely traded commodities globally. The expansion in
demand for leather is driven by the style industry, especially footwear. Other than
this, the furniture and interior design industries, similarly, the automotive industry
also demand leather. The leather industry features a prominent place within the
Indian economy and is considered for substantial export earnings and it's among the
highest ten Forex earners for the Country.

The Indian leather industry accounts for around 12.93 percent of the world’s leather
production of hides/skins and handles an annual production of about 3billion sq. ft.
of leather. The country accounts for 9% of the world’s footwear production. India is
the second-largest producer of footwear within the world, producing about 2.41
billion pairs (2017). The export of footwear, leather and leather products from India
reached a worth of US$ 5.69 billion during 2018-19.
India has an abundance of raw materials with access to twenty of the world’s cattle
and buffalo and 11% of the world’s goat and sheep population. Added to this are the
strengths of skilled manpower, innovative technology, increasing industry
compliance to international environmental standards, and therefore the dedicated
support of the allied industries.

The leather industry is an employment intensive industry providing job to around


4million people, mostly from the weaker sections of the society. Women employment
is pre-dominated in the leather products industry with about 30% share. The leather
industry in India has the youngest workforce with 55% of the workforce below 35
years old. India is the second-largest exporter of leather garments and therefore the
third-largest exporter of Saddlery & Harness within the world.
The major production centers for footwear, leather, and leather products in India are
located within the States of Madras – Chennai, Ambur, Ranipet,; west Bengal –
Kolkata; Uttar Pradesh – Kanpur, Agra, Noida, Saharanpur; Maharashtra – Mumbai;
Punjab – Jalandhar; Karnataka – Bengaluru; Telengana Hyderabad; Haryana –
Ambala, Gurgaon, Panchkula, Karnal and Faridabad; Delhi; Madhya Pradesh –
Dewas; Kerala – Kozhikode and Ernakulum / Cochin; Rajasthan; Jaipur; Jammu &
Kashmir; Srinagar.

The major markets for Indian leather and leather products are the USA with a share
of 15.75, Germany 11.6%, UK 10.55%, Italy 6.5%, France 5.7%, Spain 4.5%, UAE
3.9%, Netherlands 3.4%, Hong Kong 3.3%, China 2.6%, Poland 2.0% and Belgium
2.0%. The leather industry tends to come up with 250 jobs for each $ 0.2 million
investment.
These 12 countries together account for nearly 71.84% of India’s total leather,
leather products, and footwear export.
European Union accounts for 54% of India’s total export of leather and leather
products.
INDUSTRY SCENARIO
Exports of leather and leather products touched $5.5 billion during 2018-19

Exports are segmented as:


Footwear export accounts for 49.23% share. Product mix with gents (55%),
followed by ladies (35%) and youngsters (10%). With an annual production of 2257
million pairs, a large domestic retail market exists with 2021 million pairs (90%).

Leather garments industry : Annual production capacity of 16 million pieces.


9.04% share of India’s total leather export.

Leather good and accessories industry including saddlery and harness: Accounts
for 23.79% share for leather goods and around 2.7% for saddlery and harness. The
annual production capacity of 63 million pieces of leather articles, 52 million pairs
of commercial gloves, and 12.5 million pieces of harness and saddlery items.

Finished leather stands at 15.2%.

The tanning industry accounts for an annual production of about 3 billion sq. ft.

 India’s leather industry has grown drastically, transforming from a mere


unprocessed leather supplier to a value-added product exporter.
 Total leather goods export from India stood at US$ 4.64 billion in 2019-20.
During April-August 2019, the key markets for Indian leather products were
the US (16.73 percent), Germany (12.31 percent), UK (11.41 percent), Italy
(7.48 percent), and France (5.54 percent.
 During April-August 2019, products exported include leather footwear
component (US$ 115.19 million), leather garments (US$ 190.07 million),
finished leather export (US$ 237.69 million), leather footwear (US$ 937.13
million), and leather goods (US$ 584.37 million).

FOOTWEAR INDUSTRY

Tanning Sector – Annual availability of leathers in India is about 3 billion sq.ft.


India accounts for 13% of world leather production of leathers. Indian leather
trends/colors are continuously being selected at the MODEUROPE Congress

Footwear Sector– India is Second-largest footwear producer after China, with


Annual Production of 2.41 billion pairs (2017). India is the second-largest consumer
of footwear after China, with a consumption of 2.49 billion pairs. Footwear (leather
and non-leather) export accounts for about 45.48% share in Indian leather and
footwear industry’s export (2018-19). The Footwear products export mix is: Gents
58%, Ladies 30%, Children 9% et al 3%.

Leather Garments Sector – India is that the second-largest global exporter, next
only to Italy, with a worldwide market share of about 17%. Accounts for 8.23%
share of India’s total export from the leather sector (2018-19).

Leather Goods & Accessories Sector including Saddlery & Harness– India is fifth
largest global exporter. Accounts for about 28% share of Indian leather and footwear
industry’s total export

Apollo International Limited (AIL) is a significant part of the Apollo
Group was established in 1994 with the vision of “Nurturing
Entrepreneurs through Partnerships”. AIL spearheaded group’s
diversification into different sectors including Logistics, Digital
Cinema, Fashion Garments & Accessories, International Projects and
Marketing &Distribution of tyres.

H ISTORY
• Raaja Kanwar is founding father of Apollo International Limited, subsidiary of
the Apollo Group. Though the family business ensured a natural progression into the
tyres business but Raaja was keen to diversify and his vision ‘Nurturing
Entrepreneurs through Partnership’ resulted in a leather startup in 1995.

• In 2005, he met Shiraz Askari an entrepreneur, running his own business for
more than a decade and gave him the responsibility to transform the business. Shiraz
after completing his MBA from AMU, Aligarh and began his career as a sales and
business development professional but soon joined the leather export industry. He
gained experience and held various senior executive positions before starting his
own export company. He took to the helm of Apollo Fashion Company in 2005 and
since then his specialize in process, product, and marketing has helped us grow
rapidly. Shiraz has added new product categories, opened new markets and for him
customer remains at the center of everything we do. he's keen about providing equal
opportunities, doing business ethically and his vision is pushing the teams to adopt
best practices and processes the least bit levels.

• In 2014, Apollo fashion co. started making bags, wallets, and belts at the
behest of their clients. Pleased with the deliverables, we pushed, and that we
grabbed the chance to feature new categories.

• In 2017, Apollo fashion co. started making shoes for men and gradually started
producing for ladies in addition and are currently working with some remarkable
international brands.

• In 2019, Apollo fashion co. have extended their expertise into textile garment
manufacturing and are making outerwear, woven shirts, ladies tops, and dresses
within the current facilities and commit to further expand it soon.

3.3 S COPE OF THE S TUDY


This study aims at providing recovery strategy to Apollo Fashions Company for
2021. As we all know, Corona Pandemic has changed everything. Now. Everything is
happening over Internet. Therefore. Digitization and selling products online is the
need of the hour. So, this study is being conducted to know the consumer
preferences for online shopping and efforts are also made to know the platform that
will be most suitable for selling products of Apollo Fashions Company online
domestically as well as internationally.
3.4 R E SE ARCH D E SIG N

A research design is the arrangement of conditions for collection and analysis of


data in a manner that aims to combines relevance to their search purpose with
economy in procedure.
Research design provides clarity without a research design a researcher may not
what to do. It provides with ease in analysis and interpretation. However, a research
design should not be rigid it should be flexible and have room for changes. Research
design can be broadly classified into three types.
a) Exploratory Research Design
b) Descriptive Research Design
c) Causal Research Design

The present study is descriptive in nature which investigates and analyses the current business
situation of fashion Industry. Secondary data is collected from various Government websites to
assess the policies for leather apparel industry. For the primary data, questionnaire method is
employed. For analyzing the collected data, MS excel is used. 

3.5 M ETHODS OF DATA COLLECTION

 Primary data: Primary Data are those data that are observed or collected from
first-hand experience. They are in the form of “raw material” to which
statistical methods are applied for the purpose of analysis and interpretations.

 Secondary data: Secondary Data are those data, which are collected for
another purpose. In the other words, Secondary data is data, which is being
reused for any other purpose. Secondary data is also collected from sources
like journals, newspapers, official websites etc.

The data collected here is mainly primary in nature. Secondary data is also used to
support this study.
The main method of collecting primary data used in this study is Questionnaire.
3.6 S AM P L ING

Sampling is the process of choosing a subset (called a ‘sample’) of a population of


interest for purpose of constructing observations and statistical inferences of
population.
There are various methods of sampling data. The sampling technique used here is a
hybrid of Judgment and Convenience sampling. Convenience sampling refers to
technique of collecting data where data is collected from those that are easy to
contact or easily available. Judgment sampling refers to a non-probability sampling
technique where the researcher selects units to be sampled on the basis of his own
existing knowledge or his professional judgment. Thus, Efforts are being made to
cover all sorts of consumers as far as possible so that the sample can represent the
population.

FINDINGS
FINDINGS

 Out of 102 respondents 74% belong between the age group of 18 to 30 years.
 52% of the respondents are male.
 89% of the respondents are buying products online amidst corona.
 47% of the respondents have studied Master degree.
 26% of the respondents fall in Rs.4,00,000 and above income group.
 Majority of the respondents believes that online shopping is more feasible,
convenient, and economical in terms of time and money.
 80 % of the respondents buys fashion products online.
 Majority of the respondents believes that window shopping is easier in case of
online shopping.
 There are certain parameters that motivates the user to shop online:
 Website user friendliness.
 Discounts and offers. 
 Cash on delivery.
 Free shipping.
 In online shopping Physical examination is the important issue
 Time saving

 Most preferred platforms for Fashion products are Amazon, Flipkart, and
Myntra.
 The return and exchange policy has also increased the trust and trend in
fashion products online selling.

RECOMMENDATIONS
&
LIMITATIONS
As the study clearly depicts that online shopping is preferred by majority of
respondents and in case of fashions products as well. Therefore following are the
recommendations and suggestions from my inference for the Apollo fashions
company.

 We are performing reasonably well in export but we can go for selling


products in India as well.
 Due to covid-19 also, many new customers have started buying products
online.
 Selling products over online platforms, initially as it needs no infrastructure
and very less Investment. A brand roadster became famous from online selling
only.
 Selling products over Amazon, Flipkart and Myntra. These three are the major
players of online shopping especially in case of fashion products.
 Especial emphasis can be made on selling products on Myntra as its famous
for fashion products only.
 We can go for creating our own store on shoppify.com and sell online
domestically as well as internationally. I have created a dummy store for
Apollo Fashions Company as Apollo leathers on shopify.com. Screenshots of
the stores are attached below.
 After creating the brand image using online shopping, we can go for opening
exclusive retail stores in India.

LIMITATIONS OF THE STUDY

 The sample size which is used in the study is only 100 due to time constraints.
 The time limit for the research was small to collect information for an in-
depth study
 Result of the study depends on respondent response
 The method of study was based on convenience random sampling. Therefore
the reliability and accuracy of analyzed results are to be further studied.
