Dear Members of the Selection Committee:
My name is Yamelle Gonzalez, and I am an ambitious sophomore pursuing a degree in Business Management with a minor
in Spanish at the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management. It is with great interest and determination that I
apply for the Project Management Director position at the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA), as I
possess a strong passion for the management and consulting field. I want to pursue a career in Business Management
because I would like to master the art and science of working with people and be a leader in strategy and decision-making.
In the next few years, I envision myself holding a managerial position in a respected and reputable Fortune 500
company, effectively leading and managing a group of individuals as well as assisting them in meeting their full
potential.
Being aware that attaining a management position is not an immediate nor a straightforward process, I am determined
to elevate in position, importance, and influence through hard work and dedication over the coming years. A Zig
Ziglar’s quote I live my life by, especially in my academic studies is: “There is no elevator to success. You have to take the
stairs” (Ziglar, 2013). In other words, that thought encourages and drives me to seek every possible opportunity there is, to
avoid being in an indeterminate position in the future. The fear of not enjoying or achieving my goals in college drives me
to seek for opportunities such as what this position offers.
This position aligns with my previous professional experience, as I worked as the administrative assistant for the Gonzalez
Quality Fruits and Vegetables produce. In this bilingual and bicultural position, I was equipped with the tools and
resources needed to be successful in a workplace. These included having a key knowledge of the business and gaining
critical leadership skills, given that I worked alongside the secretary and the accountant. Furthermore, I realized the
importance of working well with employees and managing the behind-the-scenes work, by playing a vital part in the
operations of the organization. In addition to working in this firm, I have expanded my passion for business by joining
clubs such as the Association of Latino Professionals for America (ALPFA) and the Eller Management Association (EMA).
These two organizations focus on professional development, such as personal branding, and have allowed me to expand my
network by establishing relationships with powerful and reputable corporations, such as Altria and Vanguard. This
association takes pride on the personal qualities of its members, such as integrity, dedication, leadership, and an eagerness
to learn and they all have been qualities that I fostered and will continue to do so.
Ultimately, being able to hold an executive board position in a national and prestigious organization would certainly be a
rewarding experience. Besides, this position will allow me to bring my leadership and team building skills that I have
mastered in my professional and leadership experience on every encounter I have, both professionally and personally.
In addition, and as previously mentioned, my understanding of the business world will enable me to be a productive
board member, as I own outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as effective written and verbal
communication skills, and I have the ability, and enjoy working both independently and within a team. I am driven by
my curiosity and would like the best for my future. Thank you for taking the time to consider my application, and I
look forward to hearing your decision and the opportunity for an interview.
Sincerely,
Yamelle Gonzalez
