Executive Summary

E-commerce sector is an emerging sector in Bangladesh. Pickaboo holds the 2nd position in
ecommerce sector with a high market growth. But it is tough to hold the position because of the
market is too much competitive. To keep presence in the e-commerse industry Pickaboo needs to
maintain the flexibility in order to challenge its competitors. People here tend to look for more
options from any kind of business organizations.

In this project, we tried to portray the essence of E-commerce industry in Bangladesh and at the
same time we analyzed the basic e-commerce related operational activities played by Pickaboo
and we found out some of the unavoidable flaws that are being made by Pickaboo and at the same
time we mentioned the deceitful tricks of Pickaboo to capture their targeted group.

Our report contains a thorough research on the e-commerce activities that are being operated by
Pickaboo.

Introduction

 Company profile: Pickaboo is a B2C e-commerce organization performing business in


Bangladesh since May 12th, 2016. Pickaboo has a broad extent of products offerings
starting from home appliances, Smart and feature phones to Cameras, Computing
equipment, and various other related accessories. At its core, e-commerce refers to the
consume and sale of goods and/or services via electronic mediums such as the internet.
Like any digital term or consumer-based purchasing market, e-commerce has begotten
over the past couple of years. As mobile devices have started becoming more popular,
mobile commerce has become its own market. With the rise of social network sites like
Facebook and Pinterest, social media has become an essential operator of e-commerce.
Official Facebook page is verified and it has more than 740,000 with 4.3 stars out of 5
stars’ overall reviews. Pickaboo has achieved around 6 minute’s reaction time, reaching
an incredible 98% response rate since they get a lot of supports from their social media
team. The Pickaboo website gets 25 thousand hits in a single day. (Source: Pickaboo
Facebook page) Pickaboo is a sister concern of Edison Group. Edison group is already
ushering them in the market with the Symphony Mobile, Edison Logistics and much
more. Pickaboo is the second largest e-commerce organization in Bangladesh. The
director’s board of Pickaboo consists of four investors, who have the capabilities to build
more than one company and a lot of brands at the same time. Back in 2016 three
members from Edison Group and MO Magic Technologies India took an initiative to

Mission and vision

Their mission statement is to “Work in the E-commerce echo system of Bangladesh & make online
shopping a comfortable, trust worthy & Necessary shopping experience for OUR consumers.”

Their vision statement is “What we promise, we deliver.

Range of Service

Range of selling and service: Range Selling is used to provide variety of products to customers,
reduce the dependency of sales revenues from single or limited products and have better
visibility at stores. Range selling is one of the key techniques to do better sales. To put this smart
range of selling and service strategy in operation Pickaboo like to buy different products from
different and many distributors.

It is in Pickaboo’s background and these practical facts, that it is a challenge for any Pickaboo
salesman to sell more of their products at a single E-commerce business.

Characteristics of Product and services

Pickaboo made their e-business much easier to their customers with the characteristics of
their products that are:

 Affordable: They offer good and quality products at an affordable price than other
remaining online business. The affordability also creates extra value to Pickaboo where it
can easily grab customer’s attraction and trust with the company.

 Easy: One of the big characteristic of their product is they don’t even have to have their
own product; after receiving the order via their website they sometimes forward it to other
e-commerce shops that works to deliver the best product to its end users.
 Options: They have almost every types of products in their inventory and can able to
deliver it to their customers when needed. Customers find it very convenient to choose
their desired product where they have many options in hand to switch.

Characteristic Durability

 Reliability: Reliability is often used as a synonym for durability. Pickaboo ensures that
they deliver the best quality and its durable products to their customers. Before
purchasing from other manufacturer or distributor they make sure that their customers get
the product that they can rely on.

 Packaging: Pickaboo feels that the product going to be delivered needs to be packaged
for shipping. Sometimes they also package the sensitive and fragile products carefully so
that it can prevent damage during transportation, or is it to keep components from getting
lost or during shipping.

Characteristic Quality

Customer Requirements

When Pickaboo says their products are of high quality, they mean that it meets or exceeds all the
user/customer's requirements. Pickaboo always do surveys on customer’s want and what type of
product they are constantly searching in their website and other online shops.

 Testing: In some cases Pickaboo tests during design and fabrication and also before the
delivery to prevent make negative impression to customers. A team is always working on
the testing after the product immediately entered to their inventory.

 Servicing facility: They provide warranty and have replacement policy if customers do
not get the exact product they ordered and if the product get defected with in the given time
begin on warranty agreement.

Key Business Focus

Recognizing the Business Needs: Pickaboo knew that if their products aren’t seen by your
customers, they simply won’t sell any. Pickaboo is focused on the customers’ information needs
in order to convert search traffic into e-commerce success. This means more than providing
Pickaboo’s unique information searchable and tagged so it can be found through the search
engines and comparing sites.

 Make the experience as similar to offline shopping as possible:


Pickaboo’s all products on the website have high-resolution pictures taken from different angles
and each product details and specifications are given elaborately along with the pictures.

 Create a fascinating brand: Pickaboo is focusing to stand out from the huge number of
competitors trying to tempt their customers onto their website. Pickaboo has effectively
used several marketing techniques to create a cohesive brand story with a strong narrative
round it.

 Find a niche that no-one else serves: The key focus of Pickaboo e business is that they
serve a niche market and putting affiliative advertisements on the internet to pull up the
customer base that other large retailers and their immediate competitors do not.

 Cost: Offering affordable price to customers and gain profit from the e business is not an
easy task for Pickaboo. Costs are the perceptions of Pickaboo managers regarding the
relative advantages and disadvantages of e-Business for the organization.

 Efficiency: It refers how effectively Pickaboo is performing their job and what result they
are bringing to e business. Though Pickaboo’s online marketing strategy is effective, but
still they cannot reach to majority of the people.

 Competitiveness: Pickaboo always keeps eye on their competitor’s activity and their
performance. Introducing new features and add extra value to customers gives advantage
than its competitors.

 Government support: It depends on government how willingly they support these e


business and its growth in Bangladesh. Reducing charges and taxes on online shopping
may add more benefits to e business.

 Technological support: Pickaboo using as much technological facilities they can to serve
their customers well than other competitors. Still there are less technological support to
Pickaboo and other companies in Bangladesh to run their business more effectively.

 Convenience: How convenient and trustworthy the online shopping is and how
comfortably customers are experiencing the online business in their daily life is important
in e-business drivers.

 Cost: Online shopping should charge less price than the offline shops so that customers do
not feel that they are paying more money if they purchase it from online.

 Choice: As customers are not visiting physically to see the product in online shopping, e
business should have enough variation in their product collection so that it meets
customer’s choice.

 Customization: Customization option gives extra value to customers to customize the


product on their choice. Easy customization and its convenience is important factor in this
drive.

 Content: Content is an important driver to customers to convince them to choose online


shopping rather than offline store shopping to avoid hassle.

2. Pickaboo’s E-business revenue model:
The e-Business model, like any business model, describes how a company functions; how it
provides a product or service, how it generates revenue, and how it will create and adapt to new
markets and technologies.

Value Proposition of the E-business model:

Pickaboo does follow a separate E-business model & it has a separate value proposition for it. As
an ecommerce organization, the products or services they vend are a key component of their value
proposition. But it is more than just those products or services. Other elements of value they
provide include their pricing strategies, promotions, volume discounts, rewards points, free
shipping, customer services, product content, availability, return policies, industry knowledge and
expertise, and many other factors. To fulfill its value proposition, Pickaboo optimizes their whole
value chain with the aid of its e-business. For instance, e-business supports Pickaboo to maintain
communication with hundreds of suppliers around the globe and it helps Pickaboo to manage a
good relationship with other companies at the same time.

 Revenue model of Pickaboo: Revenue model refers to the mediums of gaining revenue.
Pickaboo generates its revenue mainly through the sale of electronic products via its
website. The revenue model that pickaboo is following is “Markup” which is the oldest &
most common revenue model seen among the businesses. This revenue model is extremely
commong among retailers. Since Pickaboo plays a role of middleman by providing the
products from the actual manufacturer to the end customers it gains the revenue by cutting
a bit of commission for providing the ultimate service. At the same time Pickaboo follows
the “Web catalogue revenue model” to display its products to potential customers & they
assist the customers to place order simultaneously.

Pickaboo’s online marketplace structure:

Like any digital technology or consumer-based purchasing market, e-commerce has evolved over
the years. As mobile devices become more popular, mobile commerce has become its own market.
With the rise of sites like Facebook and Pinterest, social media has become an important driver of
e-commerce. Pickaboo has captured this significant opportunity through coming up with a business
platform where they sale all their products online. Apparently they are following “Pure Play”
structure since they have their existence online. Although they have their own office at Gulshan
avenue but they literally sale their products online, they do not have any retail outlet.

Pickaboo’s revenue generating strategy:

Pickaboo keep earning revenue through the sales of the products to its customers via website. It
doesn’t have an offline retail outlet although pickaboo sales product at its office occasionally. But
mainly they sale products through online. In terms of its revenue generating strategy Pickaboo is
focusing on the product, service & price strategy.

1. Product Strategy: Pickaboo operates the business, performing as a middleman.


They order authentic products from original manufacturers and they try to create a
trust by providing original products to their end customers. Pickaboo has already
succeeded in terms of gaining trust from the customers. In order to buy electronic
products, customers face a lot of troubles. They want to ensure that whether the
product they’re buying is original or not. Buying products from online stores invery
risky in the perspective of Bangladesh market. People get bluffed by a lot of
companies. But Pickaboo always provide authentic products to their end customers
which have given them a massive bump up in this year.

2. Service Strategy: Pickaboo provides a lot of services to their customers to help


them getting the best experience of buying something online. They offer EMI
service for all of their products at 0% interest rate. They offer brand warranty which
other e-commerce organizations have failed to provide. They can supply the
original brand warranty of products from Apple or Oneplus whereas these
companies have not entered in Bangladesh market.

3. Price Strategy: The idea of providing the EMI service & quality products have let
Pickaboo an opportunity to charge a bit of extra price compared to its competitors.
But still people get involved in buying products from Pickaboo since they get better
quality products & better services.

Pickaboo’s Online Market Place Structure:

 Intermediaries: Pickaboo uses intermediaries such as Google Search Engine for its online
marketplace. When specifically searched for the term “Pickaboo.com” on Google,
Pickaboo appears as number one in the search results. Moreover, all the search results on
the first page were Pickaboo related (Fahmida, 2017). With the help of this intermediary,
Pickaboo can generate traffic to its destination site.

 Location of trade: In its online marketplace, Pickaboo operates in a seller-controlled


location where buyers can purchase products from Pickaboo by visiting its website which
is controlled by the company itself.

3. E-business platform/ Infrastructure of Pickaboo


E-business application service:

 Seller Center: It is a module through which the merchant gets registered. Enlist their
product on website, change price, assort products and manage their online store. On the
other hand the vendor manager maintains the sales, update the data, and analyze
different types of function and situation.
 CRM: For maintaining good relationship with customer Pickaboo customer care team
use some modules like Zen desk, LMS, Zoho software to maintain a healthy
relationship and push sell.
 WOMS: Warehouse and Order Management service mainly used by the operations
team and partially customer service team as well. This module help to keep inventory,
manage orders, manage warehouse (both single & Multiple), return management, cross
dock and drop ship.

 Delivery Module: This module helps the operation team to track vehicles, orders and
parcels, manage inbound and 3pl delivery partners. This module is used by finance
team as well to track down the daily delivery and collection reports.
 OMS: Pickaboo uses their own OMS to process an efficient order management system.

Apart from those, Pickaboo use different IT system like Google BI software, SEO tools and others
for marketing and data analysis.

IT use for e-business application and its specific function:

Intranet: Pickaboo have their own intranet. It helps them to run their organization. They also keep
personal information of customer in their Intranet so that they can deliver the right product to the
customer. Pickaboo intranet is a private network accessible only to the staff of Pickaboo.

Extranet: Pickaboo offers an extranet to supply chain partners to facilitate processes such as
invoice payment and reverse logistics. Their extranet consists of a custom built website that is
restricted to authorized partners with techniques such as two-factor authentication

Internet: https://www.Pickaboo.com is the internet of Pickaboo. Through this site customer can
buy and seller can sell.

EDI: Pickaboo use “Electronic Data Interchange” to connect with various companies who want to
share business or interest in them. With the help of EDI, Pickaboo maintain invoice,
inventory/inquiry advice, purchase order, product activity data, purchase order acknowledgement,
advance shipment notice, purchase order change acknowledgement etc.

Web technology and software application:

Pickaboo upgrade their software as soon as there is new upgrade came in online world. At this
moment they are using web 2.0 technologies in their site.

Blog: Pickaboo has their own blog site https://www.Pickaboo.com/blog/. They talk about various
things like beauty, lifestyle, technology, their events, shop etc. They also talk about those problems
that their consumer often might face. They also talk about, how to use Pickaboo website, buy
product, policy of return and many more. The blogs only purpose is give idea about them to
consumers and businesses also help those consumers and businesses who want to buy something
or merge something with Pickaboo.

Web content management strategy:

Pickaboo follows 4 strategies for their web content management strategy.

1. They keep it simple: If you visit Pickaboo website which is www.Pickaboo.com, you will see
they keep it very simple. You can easily find product and purchase process is also easy. They
follow product based strategies. Also, if any customer want specific product, they can use search
option to find their desired product.

2. They keep it credible: You will find always that Pickaboo gives specific description about
products, price and quantity they want to sell. If the product is out of stock, they update it instantly
in their website. They always try to make sure that what consumer see on web site page about
product is always true. Same color, same quality when consumer find the product on their hand.

3. They keep it connected with outbound links: Pickaboo use hyperlinks on their website, this
allows visitors to check facts and increase Pickaboo credibility.

4. They keep it engaging: Pickaboo website has two additional backup servers if their main server
is accidently down or shut off. By doing this they keep engage their consumer 24/7 engage with
them.

4. Digital Strategy for E-business:

Since 2016 Pickaboo has managed to position itself as one of the leading e-commerce companies
in Bangladesh. In the beginning it was a mediocre company consisting of few people to run the
business. But it has evolved within a short period and currently it is leading the e-commerce sectors
in Bangladesh. It has managed to spread the brand awareness through all over the country as a
trusted e-commerce organization that provides & ascertain accurate customer service. In the
beginning Pickaboo initiated with selling expensive electronic products. Within a very short period
it has managed to add a multiple product lines.

Pickaboo certainly has a separate e-business strategy, which is providing the original products &
delivering it to the end customers. They ensure to get the original products from the original brands,
distributors & combine outright with them. They keep contacts with the original distributors. This
is certainly an exceptional strategy which is different than others. Since E-commerce industry is
entirely new in Bangladesh market, the people over here are not comfortable in buying products
from e-commerce organizations. Trust issue is one of the biggest factors which is keeping a
significant amount of customers away from buying products from e-business organizations. Since
there are a lot of organizations in Bangladesh that provide low quality products and keep bluffing
with their customers, the trust on e-commerce sectors is going away. But Pickaboo has managed
to achieve significant amount of trusts from the end customers by providing them the original
products. Pickaboo also give their end customers a lot of benefits by providing them the “EMI
service” so that they can easily buy the products through installment.

Analyzing e-business strategy of Pickaboo-

In order to analyze the e-business strategy of Pickaboo, we need to portray an essence of their
SWOT analysis, competitor analysis, situation analysis, strategic agility & market positioning

SWOT analysis-

SWOT analysis is a resolution framework which is used to assess an organization’s competitive


position through the summarization of its strengths, weaknesses, opportunities & threats.

 Strengths-
I. As an e-commerce organization Pickaboo has managed to position itself as
the most trust worthy online shop in Bangladesh market.

II. they have managed to keep the transaction system extremely facile for their
end customers by providing them services like EMI system, cash on
delivery, free return policy, Online payment, Card on delivery, payment via
bKash and so on.

III. They keep giving their consumers the original brand warranty that
transforms customers to loyal customers. E.g. they provide the official
brand warranty of products from companies like Apple, One Plus & so on.
On the contrary there is no official retail outlet of these companies in
Bangladesh.

IV. They have a physical presence at Gulshan Avenue, where people can come
& they can see the products in person before buying.

V. Pickaboo achieved great responses on social media which has been
imparting indulgence status in their business.

VI. They are offering 0% EMI facilities to their customers which is stimulating
their sales

VII. They have an entirely secured website that provides unimpeded & secured
checkout for all their customers. They grapple absolute care in protecting
the personal information of their customers through diverse security check.

VIII. Mobile phone interface of Pickaboo is extremely user friendly which helps
the consumers to purchase anything easily.

 Weaknesses-

I. Limited Product lines: Pickaboo has limited product lines compared to its
competitors. E.g. Daraz, Backpack has a lot of product lines. Less amount
of product lines is pushing a lot of consumers away from engaging with
Pickaboo. They need to come up with new product lines to get a lot of
customers.

II. Low brand acknowledgement: Brand recognition of Pickaboo is not


sufficient enough. There are a lot of people who have no idea about the
existence of Pickaboo. Specially in the remote area the recognition of
Pickaboo is very low compared to its competitors like Daraz, Bikroy.com
& so on.

III. Unavailability of products: This situation is keeping Pickaboo in a


backward position. Their customers have this complains that sometimes

they cannot deliver the ordered products yet they show those products on
their website.

IV. Focusing only on online marketing: Pickaboo has this issue that they only
focus on online marketing rather than focusing on 360-degree marketing. In
order to build a brand recognition, Pickaboo needs to create a lot of
campaigns in the remote areas. They need to show their existence in all over
Bangladesh & give the excellent services simultaneously. They should
focus on TTL (Through The Line) marketing.

V. Improved delivery system at the remote areas: In terms of delivering the


products to the remote areas, Pickaboo needs improvement as people over
there wait for a long time to get their products. If they can make the delivery
system faster & smoother than before, a lot of customers will order products
from them

 Opportunities-

I. Emersion of E-commerce industry: Since 2016 the e-commerce industry


is flourishing in Bangladesh market. The percentage of buying & selling
through e-commerce organizations is increasing rapidly. As a result, the
opportunity for becoming the market leader in this industry is very high for
Pickaboo

II. Emergency delivery: Launching this service can give Pickaboo a massive
upper hand as there is a high demand of emergency delivery.

III. Gift delivery service: Pickaboo should undertake gift delivery orders like
flowers, chocolates, cakes & so on
