Engaging Adjective Lesson Plan

To teach 4th and 5th grade students about adjectives, the teacher created an anchor chart with the class to record examples of descriptive adjectives for nouns. After reviewing the definition of an adjective, the students contributed adjectives to describe nouns while the teacher wrote them on the chart. Having the students generate examples and see their own contributions on the chart made the lesson on adjectives more engaging and helped the students better understand adjectives.

Rationale-

To introduce adjectives to my 4th and 5th grade students, we

created an anchor chart together. After learning the definition of an
adjective, we then began to discuss different adjectives. I prompted
the students to describe nouns and recorded their answers on the
anchor chart. The students had the base of this anchor chart in
their English packets, so they wrote the adjectives as we discussed
them. This activity encouraged the students to think about items
around them and describe them with specific adjectives. This
anchor chart made the lesson more meaningful to students
because they could relate to their own examples and more readily
think of adjectives.
