Motivation Letter
The dear selection committee,
I am interested in the announced MSc Critical Care Nursing at the University College of Dublin.
After I graduated from Jigjiga University, the Government of Ethiopia deployed me to one of the
most remote areas of Ethiopia. In my fourteen months stay in the most remote areas in Ethiopia,
I have witnessed the dire situation of the community that I have been working for who are
suffering from disease and accident-related critical conditions that can be prevented or treated
and a lot of peoples lost their lives due to lack of proper emergency and critical care unit and
professionals. A major cause of this was the shortage of trained managers and qualified
personnel.
Since the time I have been working in remote areas of the Country, it was my strong aspiration
and conviction to take part in research activities and engage myself in providing Nursing care for
the patients who are critically ill which will be able to address the major community health
problems in Ethiopia.
The MSc Critical Care Nursing program at University College of Dublin has a rich multi-
disciplinary component, with top-notch professors, excellent environment, and rich history of
diverse alumni. I would like to participate in this program to develop my practical, decision-
making and research skills, as well as gain exposure to new and emerging techniques,
methodologies and modalities in critical nursing care for the patient. The program would be an
excellent opportunity to improve my Professional and research skills and to gain a lot of
experiences to deal with the multifaceted and grand health challenges that my country is facing.
Also, I believe, the knowledge, skill, and experience that I will gain from this program would
also be relevant to the institution that I have been teaching because we have an undergraduate
program in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing; but, we only have two lecturers who have
Master Degree in Emergency and Critical Care Nursing. Due to the shortage of trained
professional who is specialized in this field, it is been so difficult for my institution to continue
this program furthermore because only one institution in Ethiopia has this program and it only
receives 20-25 students per year. So, with this small number of graduates, my country will not
fulfill its need. If you give me a chance to come and study this program, you will make a great
contribution to my institution and my country.
After I will complete this master, I will become lecturer as academic staff at the University of
Dilla College of Medical and Health Science and Referral Hospital that I will also share my
knowledge and experience for a lot of undergraduate and postgraduate students in my country.
Also, I will come and open trauma center and critical care center in my institution. So, my
participation in this master program will also contribute a lot to my future carrier and my
countries future development.
.
My goal is to return to my country, Ethiopia, and contribute to its growth and development upon
completion of the Master of Critical Care Nursing program.
Sincerely;
Dawit Getachew Assefa
