Create a Variety of Assessments Using Pathways 2e ExamView Content

Follow these steps to create assessments using the Pathways 2e content.

1. After installing the Pathways Listening, Speaking, and Critical Thinking, 2e ExamView software and content for
your level, find the Test Generator icon on your desktop. Click on the icon and create a free account as
instructed. If you have already created an account, click on "Sign In.”

2. Log in. Decide how you want to use the Pathways content. You can:
• “Open an existing test” to view the ready-to-go tests. Each test is 100 points.
• “Open an existing question bank” to alter or delete the available questions in a unit and/or add new items
that you want available for future tests. You can then create a modified test from this bank.
• “Create a new test or bank” with your own content. See here for more information on using ExamView.
• Use the Pathways metadata tags to create a customized test.

3. Select “Create a new test from scratch” to create a unique test with the metadata tags.

4. Name and save your test. Then to select content for your test, choose the icon at the top that lets you “Select by
criteria.”

5. Choose the units you want to take content from and click “Select.”

6. Click “Next” and choose the type of test question you want from the “Topics” menu. For example, choose
“Vocabulary” for a vocabulary quiz. If you want to focus on academic words (Levels 1-4), select “AWL” from the
“Miscellaneous” menu. Other Topics include Pronunciation, Speaking/Listening Skills, Grammar, and Listening for
Main Ideas/Details. At levels 3-4, choose “IELTS” or “TOEFL” for questions that simulate these standardized tests.

“Select While Viewing” to choose the items you want to keep, or “Select Randomly” to choose some or all items.

7. When you’ve added the types of questions you want to your test, click “Close” to see your test. Then edit the test as
needed. To edit any test, simply double click on the direction line or question you want to edit and make changes
within the pop-up box. Click “Record” to save your changes. To edit the headers or footers, go to the “Test” menu.

8. The Answer Section is at the end of every test and provides information about each question, including the answer,
the location in the unit, the number of points, any other metadata, and the .mp3 filename if there is audio.

9. If you plan to play the audio yourself in class, the audio files are best accessed on the Teacher Resources tab of the
Companion Site: Teacher Resources  Your Book Level  ExamView. If you want to give your test online via a local area
network (LAN), be sure to save new tests in the same folder as the audio files for the level so the audio will play
automatically when pressing the “Media” button.
