Coal Production and Methane Initiatives in India

Rajiw Lochan from Central Mine Planning and Design Institute (CMPDI) discussed the impacts of COVID-19 on the coal industry in India and CMM/AMM projects. The pandemic led to coal production and offtake hitting multi-month lows in April 2020 due to nationwide lockdowns. However, coal mining operations have continued with safety precautions. CMPDI has been appointed as the implementing agency for CBM development projects in leasehold areas of Coal India Limited subsidiaries. Despite impacts of COVID-19, efforts are ongoing to develop CMM/CBM resources in India.
